UF vs CA

Hi I have applied to UF and UCLA, UC Irvine and Berkeley. I live in FL with my grandma but my mom has lived in CA for the past 2 1/2 years. I qualify for instate for both. It is really between UF and Berkeley. Berkeley is prestigious but alot of my friends are at or going to go to UF and UF will be cheaper. On the other hand I want to major in CS or economics
and feel like Berkeley has top departments and I would be a fool to pass that up. Who knows I probably won’t get in since I am hearing it got 86000 applications this year but
anyway I want to hear from any UF students what they would do and why UF may be the better choice, especially if I only get into Irvine. The main draw to Irvine would be my mom and its location plus its about equal to UF academically but UF has football which is a def plus.

I’d say UF, then UCLA, then Berkley, then UCI.

^is there any reason why beyond personal preference? can you give reasons why UF over Irvine and especially Berkeley.

If money wasn’t a factor, even though I will be going to UF, I would definately choose Berkeley/probably UCLA over UF. I’m only UF committed because of funding.(I still love the area/people in the area though)

UF has an unparalled Greek System, the college athletics are second to none, and the alumni connections are amazing. If you want to live in Florida then I would pick UF almost any school in the nation.

If you want to live in California after college then go with Berkeley or UCLA. But still think Irvine is the worst option here.

UF for all of the reasons SSobick said. UCLA because of location. Then Berkley for being Berkley (:D), then Irvine…which had a good baseball team this year :D

You’ve posted in the UF forum, and a few people here has recommended you go to UF over all the other schools you’ve listed. That’s crazy. If you get into Berkeley, go there if money isn’t too much of an issue. From a purely financial standpoint, yeah, UF is probably a better choice.
I’d also like to advocate for UCI. ^If you’re going to pick UCLA from its location, UCI is located in the center of Orange county minutes from Newport beach. Personally, I think that beats UCLA’s surroundings. Have you visited the campus?

I’d say UC-Berkeley, tie for UF and UCLA, and then UC-Irvine. I mean, I’m applying to UF and it’s one of my top choices. But if I got into both Berkely and UF, I’d have to go with Berkeley… assuming it didn’t cost to much.
