Ufff....hard math qs

a sphere with surface area 45 square cm must fit through a square openig that measure k cm on each side. what could be the smallest value of k?
7.2
3.8
3.6
1.9
1.1
answ: 3.8

in the xy-plane what is the area of the triangle bounded by the graphs of the lines y=2x+3 and y= -3x+12 and by the y-axis?
ans: 8.1

anyoneeee help plzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

The first one:
the surface area of a sphere = 4pi r^2
because it must fit through the square, the diamter of the sphere must be equal to k (the length of the square). So you can get the equation
45= 4pi (K/2)^2 it’s k/2 because the radius is half the diamter.

Solve for k and you get 3.8

The second one:
in order to find out the area of the triangle, the you need the base and the height. To find these, you could either do the math by hand (find where each function intersects the y-axis so you can find the base, and then find where the two functions intersect each other to find height) or you could put both the graphs in your calculator and just find out all the intersection points.

I’m thinkin’ you might have gotten this wrong because you found the area of the triangle bounded by the x-axis?

2x+3 intersects the y-axis at (0,3)
-3x+12 intersects the y-axis at (0,12)
the distance is 12-3 = 9
the base equals 9

the functions intersect each other at (1.8,6.6), so the height of the triangle is 1.8

so then use the area formula
(1/2)(9)(1.8) = 8.1

wooooooow perfeeeeect !
thanks so much… i really understood :)

if x is a real number, which of the following is a graph of the solution set of (x-3)(2-x) greater than or equal to zero?
the answer is 2<x<3 but="" i="" got="" x<2="" and="" x="">3 !!
can u please tell me what is my mistake :)</x<3>

Make (x-3)=0 and (2-x)=0 then solve, getting x=2 or x=3. To check whether x is less than or greater than these numbers, put a sample value for x into the inequality to chech if it is true. Using x= 2.5, you get (-0.5)(-0.5)>0, which is true. Using x=4 or x=1, you get -2>0, which is not true. SO, x must be within 2 and 3.
