My student is a sophomore at UGA and is applying for Mid Term Foundation Fellow. They take about 6 people at this stage. The application includes a 500 word personal statement and a 1 minute video. Any tips on what the video should include? The instructions are fairly vague- just says to describe future plans.
I know this is HIGHLY competitive, and we’re out of state which doesn’t help. GPA in a science major is 3.99 (all As with one pesky A-).
What does your student’s video prompt or instructions say? Remembering from two years ago, D23, as incoming freshman candidate, not a UGA sophomore, was tasked with filming continuous unedited video of her talking about her professional, academic, and community interests. I think the point is to hear candidate’s voice, literally and figuratively, and see what’s important to them from this list of topics.
She filmed outside - better light, we live in the South, and I think she jotted down some of the talking points to stay focused.
Thanks for replying. For the midterm video it says specifically to NOT go over things that have been done - like don’t recap their resume. Instead it says to focus only on future goals and plans. So that’s what he’s working on - his plans for after UGA and WHY he has those plans. It’s basically the same prompt as the essay. It’s a good point that they probably want to literally hear his voice to see that he’s well spoken.
Was your daughter accepted as a FF?
Yes, she was selected FF in 2023, but not attending UGA. It is a great program and it is really cool that there is a path for current students to join it.
