UGA Out of State Tuition Waiver

@ also as far as SAt score. Georgio makes it very clear on their web site by an admissions person they would rather take a kid with 3 years worth of high grades rather than a high SAT score. So that student might have a high gpa putting them not at a reach

@jhmoney- again, we don’t know if that is W or UW. Could make a difference as could the courses taken by the OP. And this year, UGA announced that it was going to use a more holistic review of many of the EA applicants.

And not that it matters, but for sake of accuracy, the OP took the ACT, not the SAT

Yep. I use SAT as a generic term. Lol.

@jhmoney Please provide some support for the athlete claim. It is not my understanding at any school. And I know a lot of D1 athletes across various sports who are on campus early to train each summer and they aren’t enrolled in summer courses. So I’d love to read about it to understand better.

@itsgettingreal17 go to any of the Georgia Bulldog sports blogs. or recruiting sites for Georgia. All the football and basketball players enroll in the summer or even the spring of their senior year if they can graduate early
the only football and basketball players that do not, are the ones that maybe didn’t graduate and needed a summer on line class to be admitted
all others 100% enroll in the summer to go through conditioning and weight training
they live in dorms and thus take classes
this is just how it works to get the kids in early to go through conditioning
the football players do not just show up on campus middle of August and start to play in games 1 week later! thats just not how it works on collegiate athletics. thus their stats are not reflected

I know a Stanford football player (this is his first year) and he took classes this summer and was told he would do so as long as on team because they do not take a full load during football season. Same is true of Notre Dame and I’m guessing most of the highly-ranked teams in D1.

I was just accepted with the Classic Scholars waiver (half differential, about $9,500/year). Very happy but a little sad because it probably won’t turn out to be affordable for my family

State: MN (Female)
ACT: 35 (36R/31M)
AP: APUSH (5), Lang (5), Euro (5), Calc AB (5)//taking Stats, Micro, Macro, and Physics 1 this year
GPA UW: 3.96
ECs: Okay but could be better, XC captain, barista (full time summer, part time school year), did an internship @ MN House of Representatives, French Club

My first choice major was History, and I was not invited to the Honors College.

Hope this helps! If I had to guess I’d say it was my Math ACT that was a deciding factor since it brings my average down.

I agree, same issue for my daughter
in fact exactly the same English 35, Math 30, composite 34 was not enough for the Honors auto admit and for a full OOS tuition waiver

State: IN (Female)
ACT: 35 (35 Reading and English, 34 Math, 36 Science)
SAT: 1530 (760 Math, 770 English)
AP: World (4), Euro (4), Bio (4), Chem (3), Macro (5), Calc AB (5), Spanish Lang (5), in progress Spanish Lit, Calc BC, Gov
IB: Spanish SL (6), Math SL (5) in progress: HL HOA, HL Bio, HL Psych, HL English
GPA UW: 4.0; weighed 4.57
ECs: WTP, Swim, lots of leadership and service, Spanish, Summer Study Abroad and leadership program
Received UGA One scholarship (full OOS tuition waiver, $1500 per year, and auto admit to Honors Program)
Hope this helps.

Hello, did you receive that scholarship today or was this for a prior year? I was wondering what types of scholarships are being provided today with EA decisions. So far, I have only heard of Classic Scholars waivers being offered today

@jym626 Georgia is more interested in GPA and showing you worked hard for 4 years
my daughter just got in with a 1300

@jhmoney - congrats. Your daughter got in with lower than middle 50%ile SATs so she must have had some other qualities they liked . https://www.admissions.uga.edu/blog/uga-2020-ea-decisions-and-data/

@jhmoney

If your kid was say a URM, that could easily explain acceptance with a somewhat lower than average SAT for admitted students at a school.

But congratulations on her acceptance.

@thumper1 According to the UGA admissions office they do not consider whether an applicant is a minority

“In addition, we do not have any limits on the number of students we can admit based on school, neighborhood, county or state, and we do not use major, gender, race, demonstrated interest or legacy status in our review process”

Having said that, I am very skeptical of this claim. I think schools are trying to increase diversity, especially those schools where diversity has been an issue and continues to be an issue. When looking at their 2019 final admissions posting, they include the statement “14% increase in Diversity since 2015”

I can see where students (hooks) with stats closer to their target range could be viewed very favorably (closer to the lower 25 percent target) Also historical excellent schools such as Walton, Northview, Johns Creek, (many more) have a high number of high achievers. However, many of these kids do not get accepted. This is why there are so many capable students with crazy high stats get deferred or deny.

This is not unique to UGA. This is pretty much the norm at every selective State Flagship. They have to spread it out otherwise, they would only take kids from the best schools and better areas
This is why you have to take their claim, with a lot of skepticism.

I

I received the scholarship today.

Congratulations!

Congratulations!! How was it communicated today? @43Bonjour43

@ncmom2020, when I log on to the admissions portal and see the Congratulations banner with fireworks, the second sentence is “Additionally, congratulations on receiving the One UGA Scholarship with Full Waiver
”

Little late is seems, but DD was admitted EA with a “Classic Scholarship” equal to one-half difference between in and out-of-state tuition (Approx. $9500).
ST: So CA
GPA: 4.00 / 4.66
AP: approx. 10 classes (Incl this year), different success on tests
ACT: 33
ECs: 3 Varsity sports all 4 years; Cap of XC team; leadership experience; YSP at UC Davis; assist with Spec Olympics
ACCEPTED: as a Plant Biology major

We toured UGA last month and found it to be a very nice school - pretty campus with seemingly down-to-earth kids, and seems to be a school that is interested in academics and also having a life. We are still waiting for the final round of school acceptances, but UGA is a strong option

Im an OOS girl (South Carolina) who applied to UGA early action. I got in with the classic scholars waiver but no auto admit to honors. I applied in to honors and got in and also just received the full out of state tuition waiver and 3,000 a year.
ACT- 33
GPA-5.2 weighted 3.986 unweighted
