UGA Waitlist 2024

Anyone else on the waitlist this year? My son is- OOS. We’d like him to get an offer. Right now he’s leaning to FSU but would seriously consider UGA if he gets off the waitlist.

I’m curious to see with UGA’s separate deadlines for OOS (5/1) and instate (5/15) how that might impact the waitlist. I’m thinking with UGA refusing to move the OOS enrollment deadline back that they may yield lower than forecast for OOS. But who knows?

This.

Get UGA out of your mind.

You’d like him to get an offer as would everyone for every college they applied.

But they did not accept him. Others call that a rejection. It really is this - with a hedge for the college in case they fell short.

Best not to keep it on top of mind - so that you’re student isn’t constantly hoping. Fall in love with FSU - a fine school in its own regard. Find a roomie, get excited for it!!

if UGA comes through, then you can adapt.

Appreciate your thoughts regarding waitlists, but we know all how they work and how they often don’t turn into anything. college admissions is more akin to a business decision, so why fall in love at all just because a school offered you a scholarship or mailed you a lot of nice letters?

My kid, like many, can thrive at a variety of schools. If UGA doesn’t pan out he’s got other great options. I was just curious how many others here might be on the waitlist (which I understand is about 3,600 deep) and whether they expected much movement. He’s also waitlisted at UMichigan, but considering 20 something thousand other waitlisted students there and he’d rather be somewhere warmer, we have moved on from that one.

Last year 3842…739 got off.

No way to know year to year.

2022 for example, over 3000 offered and 34 got off.

FSU is a like school literally - so at least he’s got that.

Best of luck.

No movement yet?

At 4 pm ET on May 3, UGA Admissions will release a small group of Wait List admission offers. This group will be a mix of in and out of state students, with the majority being out of state. Based on the deposits we have received so far from out of state students, we are very close to the number of deposits needed for Fall 2024, and this small group will help in trying to finalize the group. In our WL review, we are using the same information we looked at in our earlier decisions to make these offers. We will not know exact details of our in-state deposits until after the May 15 deposit deadline, so most of our in-state offers will not be until after that date. We will be closely monitoring the deposits we receive and will then look at how close we are to our target goal of a predicted First Year class of 6150 students (taking into account some deposited students will cancel their enrollment due to a variety of factors) and we will then use the WL to get to our overall goal. I cannot guess about exact timelines or numbers for the future. There is no one factor used in the WL decisions, but instead we look at a wide range of factors that I have gone into detail before as far as our admission reviews. Please be patient with our office as we get through this challenging time of FAFSA delays, delayed deadlines, etc.

Thank you. I did not get email and I am oos, so I guess that’s it…

David Graves post today:

At 4 pm this afternoon, UGA will release all final Wait List decisions. We will admit a small group of students to Fall term, we will offer the Transfer Pathways option for just under 500 students (extending the transcript deadline for Fall 2025 transfer admissions), and let the rest of the WL know that we are done with the WL process. Every year is very different, and this year we saw a much higher rate of students accepting our offer of admission and depositing, especially in-state students. This meant that we were only able to offer limited admission for Fall, and we were not able to offer any Spring offers. UGA needs to limit the size of the freshman class to make sure students are able to live on campus, have access to student support, etc., thus the challenge in making sure we have a freshman class as close to 6,150 students as possible for Fall and 190 in Spring. In our process, we know that some of our deposited students will choose to ultimately enroll elsewhere due to WL offers, personal challenges, etc., and we take the current and historical data into account in our overall planning for the freshman class. We wish everyone well in their college future, and if you were not admitted, we hope to see you as a transfer student in the future.
