Ugh. Will this kill my chances?

So I did really bad on my SATIIs. Really bad.

{ Math2: 720 & Lit: 660 } <– tear

My ACT is fine (34), and the rest of my app is well rounded/competitive, but is it even worth applying anymore? One more thing, and I know this sounds bad/annoying, but will that fact that I am Hispanic perhaps make my bad scores more permissible?

You don’t even have to send your SAT II’s if the 34 ACT was with writing. Also being Hispanic does help alot because far fewer Hispanics than other races score that high (on the ACT).

Doesn’t Duke require both?

Omg you’re right i am so happy i am literally having a dance party ay ay ay ay!

It requires SAT + 2 Subject Tests OR ACT w/writing. I applied ED and just submitted my ACT w/writing and my SAT and I fulfilled the testing requirements.

I am from Seattle too btw, good luck with admissions.

Yeah good luck!

Sorry if this comes off condescending, but threads like this REALLLY annoy me. I hate people on CC that get far than above average scores and complain about how they suck so that they can get the sympathy “Oh you did amazing” to make themselves feel better. You’re taking this “scores” thing a little too far, they’re only a single part of the application, which is not all composed of numbers. In fact, some applicants with 2400’s 4.0gpa will get denied from Duke because they aren’t rounded enough, and some kids with 1900’s and 3.4 gpas will get in because they did something in high school.

^ I think he meant “really bad” in terms of being competative for Duke.

Um yeah that’s not “really bad”, the Lit one is questionable but its not absolutely horrible. You don’t have to send them, but I think that sending them might send a good sign that you’re actually doing stuff. I dunno, it’s up to you. . . I didn’t take ACTs when I applied last year so I don’t know too much about 'em.

LOL @Ballinallday & @DrJamesDaAZN. You are obviously not familiar with Math2 SATII. A 720 puts me at around the 60th percentile - at schools like Duke, usually 750+ if not 800 is basically a given for all applicants. I suppose if you think the 60th percentile is good…

And another thing, I’m not seeking pity as you seem to think I am - you’ll find that most people on CC would be disappointed with the scores I received.

But no matter, Duke will not be seeing these scores anyway.

yeah don’t even worry about it. being hispanic is a HUGE hook. like huge. given that and your fantastic ACT score, you’re in as long as you’re fine in everything else.

Yeah well I took the Math SAT II about 3 years ago. . . I don’t really remember much about it. And I know nothing about the Lit test or the ACT.

But what I can say is that I doubt it’ll “kill” your chances.
