Need help in deciding for above colleges. My son has applied for biomedical. Ultimate aim is to study medicine. Wld Georgia tech hamper his chance for medical school as its engg specific?
No.
Georgia tech is a great school. As is Illinois. Both science leaders.
I assume you mean St. Louis and not st Lawrence. I don’t know much about the school but obviously it is a very good school.
Any school can launch to medical school. Gpa mcats and ecs in college drive the med school process.
More and more students apply a year or two after grad. Med schools like to see some experience post grad. Usually medically or research related.
However most students enter pre med and leave with a different path.
I think Georgia tech opens a few more doors outside of med school over the long haul. But it also may be the more academically challenging of the three. Quality of students at all schools will be high but tech will be the highest.
However uic science specific classes will be loaded with superstars as well.
All great options. Good luck.
Thanks @privatebanker for ur insight. Yes slu meant Saint Louis Univ in Missouri.
@privatebanker UIC is Illinois Chicago not Urbana.
^^^Yes, but UIC GPPA is the guaranteed professional program (programs across many disciplines offered), of which the BA/BS-MD program is most well known and admission requires superstar status.
I learned something new today.
@Greymeer thanks. UIC and UIUC can get a bit confusing
Now our options are b/w Georgia tech and UIUC(U of I, Urbana) for biomedical engg. Will be oos for Gtech, is it worth it coz cost wld be double that of uiuc? research and med school prospect is the goal
It’s difficult to answer this because you haven’t shared actual numbers…is GT $10K and UIUC $5k, or $50K vs $25K? How will you pay for GT’s larger costs? If med school is the goal, you should minimize undergrad debt. If the relative difference between the schools is large and/or you have to take greater debt to make GT work, then UIUC is my recommendation.
Thank u @Mwfan1921. Agree with ur reasoning.
GT is almost double . So we r also leaning to UIUC only. Just that its hard to get accepted to GT so feeling bad to let go too.
GT is also very hard to maintain the premed GPA…
Yes, thats the dilemma
Finally DS selected Saint Louis university. He got their Presidential scholarship too. V relieved now that the decision is made
