UIC-GPPA.

GPPA pharmacy now requires a bachelors for matriculation. UIC COP does not require it for regular admissions.

Hey everybody. Simple Question. Do you receive a confirmation after you submit you GPPA app (like in the undergraduate app) ?

I really do hope somebody answers my question.

No. However, you can check the status of your GPPA app on your regular UIC application account.

Do you think I have a shot at GPPA Dentistry, even though I have no medical ECs? My interest in dentistry became serious at the end of this past summer. I shadowed a pedi, ortho, and GP for 6 hours, but that’s it. 32 ACT, 4.7 GPA weighted (4.0 unweighted, on 4.0 scale), rank 3/533, 4 AP tests (3 5’s, 1 4; will be taking more). I’ve got the standard club/sport/volunteer stuff, but I’m worried about the lack of medical-related ECs.

lovelyday0, Thank you.

I am also referred to college for review. I’m assuming this refers to the Honors College as that is the second step in the GPPA medicine admission process. Does anyone know off hand when honors college interviews are usually given out?

Hi prospective Dental GPPA students:

I am a current GPPA student, and here are my stats that got me in:
GPA: Unweighted 3.6, Weighted 4.5
ACT: 34
My dad is a dentist
Activities: NHS officer
State finalist for Speech Forensics
Tennis
A lot of volunteering experience

I had good statistics, but not the greatest. You should worry about your GPA if you started doing well then ended senior year very badly. If it was an upward slope, that’s very good and they like that! If you really want to get into dental or medical and show a genuine interest (Dr. Cohen can see through ********. She’s told me this verbatim) you have a definite chance of getting in. If you get an interview with Dr. Cohen or whomever, that is when you should stop caring about your statistics. They don’t really care actually, you just need to really show that you will work hard through GPPA and do extraordinary things with it. And, you can’t really know if you are a good candidate without trying.

GPPA is fantastic. Best thing that happened to my life. But, do not be fooled into thinking you’re a failure if you don’t get in. MANY MANY MANY MANY MANY GPPA kids become horribly lazy students. Seriously, 3 out of 5 GPPA students I know are lazy and ingenuine and don’t deserve their spots as much as some other very talented and harder working people at UIC. If you think you will get arrogant with GPPA (at UIC no one cares if you’re in GPPA. If you flaunt it, people will think you’re an ***) it’s not worth it. Only if you want to explore many different parts of your “human being-ness” not solely academics, and really want to become an exceptional person, GPPA is perfect for you. If your parents tell you it’s what they want for you, tell them " you" in kid language (however appropriate) and relax, and really think about what will push you to be your best.

If you do not get into GPPA: UIC is a fantastic place to go! I would have come here even if I did not get into GPPA. I know this now after getting involved in unbelievable stuff here.

I hope this helps. In the end, don’t freak out. I am very tired of seeing really lazy GPPA students. I really hope that future GPPA students as a whole have a different perspective on what it means to get an education and serve the public. Don’t get me wrong, there are many very amazing students here, but sometimes the Honors college even says that the non-GPPA students are much more exceptional than the GPPA students!
Health care is a service, and it can’t be looked at solely through lucrative means, although being financially stable is very important. Keep these things in mind when you apply.

Ah, thanks so much! I have like the EXACT same stats as you (W, UW, and similar ACT score of 35), so your post has just completely reassured me.

Thank you so much, happy in the sun! It’s really nice to hear from someone who is in the program. I know a few people in GPPA Med, but I’ve only heard from one other person in GPPA Dental. I’ve been in a sort of honors type thing throughout high school where AP/Honors classes are pretty much all you take. Quite a few students didn’t get in (limited to about 50 students) even though they work much harder than a lot of the ones actually in the program. I realize that I’m only in high school and there’s time for people to shape up, but I really dislike the whole “lazy and ingenuine” aspect you mentioned.

I really, really want to become a dentist, and the security GPPA offers would be great to have while I focus on my undergraduate. I imagine that a fair amount of GPPA students become lazy in part because they don’t have to worry about actually applying to Med/Dental/Pharm/etc schools and all the stress that comes with it. I don’t know.

Your input is a nice reassurance, though. I may or may not get an interview, and even if I do, I may or may not get in. Either way, all I can do is try my best, which is exactly what I plan on doing.

Thanks again!

I see the majority posting regarding GPPA med and dental. Could anyone provide some input on GPPA pharmacy; I couldn’t seem to find anywhere what the average ACT score for GPPA pharmacy is? I assume that the average ACT and stat’s are slightly lower than those that make it into GPPA for Med and Dental? Can anyone provide me with a rough estimate/ percentage of acceptance? Much appreciated! Good luck to everyone applying!

My STATS:
Asian Male
GPA: Unweighted 3.85, Weighted 4.6
ACT: 31
CLASS RANK: 28/633
Majority accelerated/honors/AP classes throughout High School
Track (4 yrs)
Several different Clubs
Hundreds of hours of Volunteering at a Hospital
Walgreens Pharmacy Job shadow
Church Mission Team member
Intern at a Financial Institution
etc…
A lot of other volunteering experience

Got the Honors interview notification today…

As did I. Quick question about the Honors college interview: is it used in the GPPA process? I am aware that GPPA typically has you come in for two interviews (assuming you aren’t rejected)… is the Honors college one the first? Or are there two more interviews beyond this one?

I believe it is 1/2. The email says that the info in it CAN be used for GPPA as well.

Does everyone get the Honors College interview?

I have never heard of anyone not getting the honors college interview. So, I believe that everyone gets it. This my also be due to self screening by the applicants, since most of the honors college applicants tend to have good grades and scores.

Most applicants however will not get the GPPA Medical interviews.

Got the Honors College interview invitation today…:D

is honors college interview same as gppa interview or is honors college interview the first step?

Honors college interview is the first step. GPPA interviews come later. Med and Dent require the second interview. I do not think Pharm and the others require the second interview.

Are the notifications for the interviews by email or regular mail? Also do you think the interviews are ordered in any way? by region or chances etc?

Notification for the first interview is by e-mail. Not sure about the order of notification, but every one usually gets the first interview.

OK guys! The basics…

370 people applied.
You NEVER find out if you didn’t get an interview. This is because they don’t just want to say “no” to someone and regret it later.
~70 people will be invited to interview.
March 18th is the last day that they call for 2nd interviews.
