UIC-GPPA.

Deny. I want to be upset, but I’m actually more relieved than anything else since I REALLY do not like HOC. (aka university of Indians and Chinese)

And no, I’m not bitter, lol. I was actually kinda hoping I could get this thing done with.

well i got in but i’m not going

Accepted! Yush

Congratulations to all the other students who were accepted. I am ecstatic. We need to get some way to contact and know each other (Facebook, Twitter, Gmail, CC, etc.). Thanks guys.

Accepted, but may choose UMKC 6 year. Undecided still :/

dreth7,

Why would want to go to UMKC over GPPA. You can finish GPPA Med in 7 years if you use AP credit. Is saving one year worth going to a very mediocre med school?

dreth 7, congratulations to your acceptances to both programs. u have worked hard. For what it’s worth, many individuals from high school have gone to UMKC from previous years. They love it. However, the program is very intense, esp. the first two years. since the program is hyperaccelerated. I chose not to apply to UMKC because I feel I want to relax and have a strong undergraduate education. Furthermore, UIC GPPA will allow us to apply out to other medical schools. Personally, throughout the BS/MD application process, I have found the biggest opposition/obstacle to UMKC arises from its hefty price tag.

Congratulations to all individuals accepted into the GPPA program. For the others, this program is very competitive and they cannot admit all qualified applicants. I’m sure all of us will be successful whichever path we take. To all accepted students, would u be interested in me making an open facebook group entitled UIC GPPA 2012? I think we should get to know each other, esp. for housing reasons. Tell me what you think on the thread. Thanks so much guys.

I relish the idea of clinical experiences from year one.

exonman,
making a facebook group for UIC GPPA would help me a lot especially for housing:)
thanks.

dreth7 I am not knocking UMKC but just want to pass on some info - you will not have summers off, I’m sure you know this already. A friend of mine’s D is attending right now and she says it’s very fast paced. Not that you can’t handle it - that’s just how it is if that’s what you prefer.
The other issue she has had these past 3 years is that there is this one required course she has not been able to get scheduled into that is worrying her. Apparently she is not alone in this problem but office just keeps telling her she will probably get scheduled into it before she is done. This is causing stress to my friend’s D because it would affect her finishing the program and the office is not offering a solution to the issue that has repeated itself for the past 3 yrs.
On the other hand, there are students who relish that sort of speed and are loving it.

Exactly. Everything comes down to personal preference in the end, especially when UIC and UMKC differ in only one rank on the medical school rating list.

dreth7,

What ranking list are you looking at.

UMKC is UNRANKED in the US News ranking in both research and primary care. A few years ago they were under probation and almost lost accreditation.

Last ranking I saw UMKC was 51th and UIC was 50th. I know great doctors that have came from both schools. I dont know what the huge argument is about here…

No argument here. You can be great doctor coming out of any school. I can understand that UMKC may be a good fit for you.

Just want to set the record straight about the 2012 U.S. News ranking:

[Best Medical Schools | Research Rankings | Top Medical Schools for Research | US News Best Graduate Schools](http://grad-schools.usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/best-graduate-schools/top-medical-schools/research-rankings)

I have received very little feedback on the idea of creating a facebook group for gppa med admits. smallgirl7676, thank you for responding. However, five to ten people must agree in order for the page to be purposeful at all.
