Actually, HPMEMOM, I beg to differ. Just grades and scores are not enough for this school. Working123, your stats are great, and although the amount of extracurricular activity is somewhat important, the bulk of the decisions are made by looking at the essays you submit with your application as well as your GPPA interview. I have friends with much higher stats than mine that did not get the second interview. What needs to come across in your essay is your genuine desire to become a doctor and why. Even though this program may not be as prestigious as HPME at NU, GPPA is still a very serious and selective program that really tries to pick out those ones who will benefit from the program and vice versa. I’d say just focus on what you plan to write in your essay, plain and simple. Don’t try to impress or just write what you think they want to hear - they can tell who really has that desire to be part of the program, and this is how they figure out whom they want to call back for interviews. Good luck in your application!

Hey Guys! UIC GPPA is one of my top choices for school. This is mainly because of my strong desire to become a doctor and because I love UIC.

-I go to one of the best high schools in Illinois (Top 10 USNWR)

Research work is very important for me and that’s one of the main reasons why i wanna go into a guaranteed path. I realize my GPA may be a little on the low side for GPPA applicants, but could someone let me know what kind of chances I have at getting in?
Thanks!

I thought GPPA selection process was very rigorous. Just scores are not enough. Hpme might more difficult to get in because of lesser number of seats. I met a dad at the gppa new student!s reception, who son is in hpme and daughter in gppa. They both applied to both programs, daughter was not selected for hpme and son was rejected by the gppa program. Gppa course work is very rigorous. they require advanced undergraduate/graduate level courses to replace the Ap credits. From. What i understand Most kids in the gppa program come with 60-75 hours of Ap credits.

Thanks HPMEMOM and Helium14! I was kinda scared with the community stuff but I do honestly want to become a doctor and I know that going into GPPA will help me finally reach that goal. I’m gonna try to deliver the best essay I’ve ever written in my app so fingers crossed :)

I have a question:

Does applying early action to a GPPA program lower, higher, or not affect your chances of getting in? Because I applied early and someone was telling me only prestigious students apply early so I’ll be compared to people with crazy stats and will thus be rejected. Is that true?

There’s no early action for GPPA, but if you just mean applying way before the deadline vs. just before the deadline, there aren’t any preferences or extra consideration for applications that are turned in early or on time. I’ve also never heard anything about only prestigious students applying early (and there are definitely prestigious students that don’t get accepted into the program) so rest assured, you won’t be facing automatic rejection

Good luck with your application!

Hi I’m applying to the GPPA dental program.
It seem that most of you have applied or at in the med program.
Do you guys have any stats on the dental program? And what areas do you believe they stress the most when looking at applications?

2 years ago when we went to their honors presentation they said that they were accepting close to 50 or more for medical program but only 1 or 2 for dental. I think they have been trying to increase that number but I don’t have details.

Has anyone received their GPPA interview yet?

No!!! Has anyone heard from the honors college??? They are supposed to start interviews next week!

@mcat9442 I know of a person who got their gppa interview notification about 2 weeks ago, but I have not just received anything about gppa
@2014eagle I know of a lot of people who have heard from honors college. There was a round of HC interviews sometime in december and those who had participated in that have heard of their acceptance or rejection from HC already.

@Wasian88 are you sure? On the gppa website it has a timeline and interviews are barely going to start start this week. Also, gppa interviews are not supposed to start until next month. Are you sure people told you accurate information?

@2014eagle haha no one can be sure of anything but that’s the information I received from my friend. I’m sure it is possible they misread it or something, and honestly, I’m hoping for that because i haven’t received anything either!

@Wasian88 okay yeah, you worried me a bit! You should ask them again or something just to make sure, cuz I really don’t think they sent acceptances already.

@2014eagle I’m saying that I cannot confirm about the gppa interview notifications since I have not received one but my friend says she has. As for the honors college acceptances, I can personally guarantee you that some people (including myself) have received acceptances into the honors college about 2 weeks ago

All of you going for UIC-GPPA are you going for MD or dental?

@Midhelper I’m going for MD

I’m going for Pharmacy. Haven’t received anything about an Honors College interview yet, but I did get an acceptance letter for UIC’s regular undergraduate admissions today.

Got the medicine interview notification!

congrats kennedy!
