Working123 at least you got an email, we have gotten nothing as of yet.

Do you think there is still hope for getting a GPPA Interview e-mail? I took my Honors College Interview on Dec. 13 and got my acceptance on Jan. 14. I’m really starting to freak out.

Also, here are my stats:
ACT: 33 (Eng. 34, Math 34, Read. 33, Sci. 29 W 09)
GPA: 4.45 (Weighted)
Extracurriculars: National Honor Society, National English Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta (Math Honor Society), Science National Honor Society, Student Council, 200+ volunteer hours at a hospital

Do I still have a good shot? Please be honest.

KiterPatel you still have a very good chance

Thanks Midhelper. I’m just starting to lose hope :(

@zryzor I think they change for every interview, but I know that my essay questions were pretty straight-forward and that you didn’t even have to write a complete essay—just paragraphs! One was literally “What would a scholarship mean to you and your education?” or something like that. Another asked you to describe an impact you had on someone/something, another to talk about an experience that’s made you who you are today, and the last prompted you to say how you’d contribute to the diversity at UIC. I would be more concerned with the actual interview if I were you! Best of luck~

P.S. If anyone is wondering about the Honors Presidential Award Program/Scholarship, they give out 200 between the 3 University of Illinois Campuses (so, UIC, UIUC, and UIS). The program started in 2012 and you have to be either 1. from a ‘historically underprivileged minority group’ (Latino, Black, or Native America, usually), 2. from a low sending county (i.e. southern parts of illinois) or 3. qualify for need-bassed awards as stipulated by the FAFSA. It’s full room/board, tuition, and a laptop! And even if you don’t get that, the honors college said they give about 30% of all the people in the honors college some kind of scholarship money, not to mention tons of opportunities later. I got the honors PAP (so happy! I didn’t think I would) and I didn’t even get straight A’s, so it’s totally possible!!!

ChessQueen, congrats! Do you mind sharing your stats? Like ACT, GP , etc?

of course!
- ACT: 31 (and retaking with the +writing to avoid another standardized test later on uggg…)
- GPA: 4.5-4.7 range on a weighted scale.
- Barely in the top 5% of the class but there! Honors with distinction at my HS.
- Taken/taking 9 AP’s total out of the 14 offered at my school beginning sophomore year (including AP Music Theory and AP Spanish with A’s!)
- NOT a straight A student!! But took honors form the get-go.
- 500+ hours of volunteer work
- TONS of EC including chess, NHS, Spanish NHS, Music Honor Society, student council, speech team, fall play, choir, scholastic bowl, mathletes (president!) etc.
- Lots of awards from chess/AP scholar awards/state scholar awards/etc.
- Minority status
- Hopeful bio major with chem and Spanish minors at least (I’m told there are copious amounts of bio majors in the honors college lol)

This gives stats of the Honors College, though I imagine the GPAs are on a weighted scale <a href=“Honors College | University of Illinois Chicago”>Honors College | University of Illinois Chicago;

Anybody had the interview this month?

Ugh nope. No call and no email … nada

How long is GPPA going to host interviews? I checked the timeline online but I know they started Honors College interviews before the date on the timeline so I’m not sure how accurate it is.

I will be calling tomorrow after 12 if we don’t get notified too.

have my interview tomorrow! hopefully all goes well!

Good luck kennedyiceit. Is that for honors or GPPA?
