Also, right now it makes me log in, but I saw this before. I have no idea about my LoginID or my password (I never made one and it doesn’t let me make one) since it is different from the regular login I used.

Not that I know of (yet). Congratulations!

Yeah, the system is REALLY messed up and it took me about an hour and a half to figure it out…and now it disappeared, and I cannot log in, but thank you very much! I’m just going to believe that I got in. If not, it’s a nice and funny April Fools’ joke!

for those accepted into GPPA…anyone know if we will get any further info from UIC or if there are any scholarships with GPPA? Also…anyone decided if they are a “yes” to GPPA?

They should be sending out official emails soon! I’m not an official “yes” though.

tough decisions ahead…nice problem to have! @kennedyiceit do you know much about the social/dorm life at UIC or know any current GPPA students?

@Cytomom , ugh, the decision is so hard to make! I don’t know any current GPPA students but I’ve heard of people who have been through the program. And I know UIC is a commuter school, so most students commute instead of living on campus. So I’m not exactly sure about the social/dorm life.

@kennedyiceit what other options are you deciding between?

@Midhelper , it’s between UIC GPPA and University of Chicago. Cannot decide at all!

I heard from others that there is a meeting of all accepted GPPA students later in April to get a last inside look at the program. D wants to meet her classmates and see the dorms and talk with other current GPPA students before she decides.

Really? Might have to go to it then, hopefully it can help in this decision-making process.

@kennedyiceit if you want to do medicine take the GPPA - no guarantees after U Chicago.

@midhelper are you doing GPPA? @kennedyiceit-go where your heart tells you! You are obviously a smart, movtivated student with goals and will do great in either program. Time for some soul searching on your part…are you being lured by the guarantee of GPPA and nothing else? Are you being lured by the reputation of U Chicago and nothing else? Time to decide what is important to you and only you. Do you feel a “fit” at one school over the other? How sure are you that you really want to be a physician and what kind of physician with what type of practice?

I feel like the only reason I would attend UIC would be because of the guarantee, there isn’t really anything else that I like about UIC. But UChicago, for me at least, is more than the prestige. It’s the fact that I would have the opportunity to learn alongside some of the world’s most talented students and professors and get challenged by the Core and just have an incredible college experience. But I do want to become a doctor, so the decision is really hard. The best scenario for me would be to go to UChicago for undergrad and med school, because I just love the school. But it’s a very unrealistic dream… :(

^sounds like UChicago is the decision for you! Like I tell my D…it’s time to put on big girl pants now…it’s your life, do not live it with regrets!

@Cytomom my D was rejected from GPPA but I love the program and like kennedyiceit I don’t like the UG portion.

@kennedyiceit You have very valid points. I think it comes down to how amazing of a student you are too. I too would rather have a UC experience for my child rather than UIC hands down. But college is also what you make of it. You can go to a great school and not gain that much from it just as much as you can go to a state school and do amazing things and have amazing experiences. I think obtaining those experiences at UIC are possible.

So - 4 years of excellent education experience then onto the unknown - spice of life
OR - 4 yrs of state school where you can be a big fish with guaranteed med.

Obviously I am pushing for GPPA because if you are definitely sure of med then take the guarantee track. Have you seen stats of students lately? Even students with 3.8 GPA from UG are not getting interviews for medical school nevermind acceptances. There are 8,000 people applying for 100 positions. What if you go to UC but don’t make it to med school and you go do something else. Are you ok with that? If this possibility doesn’t bother you then you have more info to decide with.

Just think through all the possible outcomes and consequences and pick the one you can live with and is most appealing. Good luck! But do tell us what you choose and continue to participate and help others in the future with their decisions.

@Midhelper Yeah, I do realize that med school is very hard to get into nowadays, so that would be the one advantage of UIC. But then again, if you want to stay in the GPPA program, you have to maintain a 3.5 GPA or above, and meet the average MCAT score of the class entering the medical school the previous year ( I think?). So, you still have to work hard at UIC if you want to maintain your guaranteed spot! There are just so many factors to consider! And I will definitely continue to participate and help others, just like how you guys are helping me!

3.5 is the bare minimum you would need to stay in GPPA compared to getting 3.5 at UC. If you can’t get 3.5 at UIC then you really can’t get it at UC either.

Hello, I was admitted to the GPPA-med program and will probably be attending. Can someone who has or is attending the program tell me a little bit about how their experience is in GPPA. I know the undergraduate experience is definitely not the same as some of the other schools I was accepted to, so I wanted to know if there were any special GPPA events/classes/community aspects that were good about the program.

Also, I heard the statistic that 90% of GPPA students finish their undergraduate in 3 years. How does this work, just through AP credits?

Thanks!

Any UIC GPPA pharmacy people here??
