Hello, I am currently a sophomore Class of 2027. I wanted to know if you guys think I could be admitted to University of Illinois Urbana Champaign to major in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering. I listed courses that I have taken and am enrolled in for next year too.
UW Gpa: 3.5
W Gpa: 4.5
PACT score: 24 (College board expects my score to rise to 31)
AP Courses: AP Computer Science Principals, AP US Gov, AP Lang, AP Precalc,
Duel Credit Courses: AP Calc AB,
Non Academics: Varsity Lacrosse, Vice President of Muslim Student Alliance, AVID College Readiness program, 65+ volunteer hours, ASE Certified Tech,
What else do you guys think I need to do to get into UIUC and do you think its acheiveable?
Yes, it is an attainable goal. Keep your grades up and prep for the ACT or even try the SAT. Are you in state or out of state? Admission rates (and tuition) vary based on your home state.
I am in state and eligible for student aid.
I don’t know the weighting system but you are premature. Work hard and we can better evaluate you in a year.
There will be aero schools for you, UIUC or otherwise.
All you can do is control what you can control. Get good grades. Do ECs that you like. Prep for the ACT or SAT. Spend time with your family and friends.
You might consider adding an activity or two that would be interesting to you that might give you exposure to engineering, and help you decide if you do like it and if so, what type of major would be best. Potential ideas…robotics clubs/competitions, rocketry or aviation club, an engineering summer program, etc.
Are you taking AP Precalc now and then AP Calc AB in 11th grade? What math class will you have in 12th grade?
Plan on taking four years of classes in each of the five core subject areas (English, Science, SS, math, Foreign language.)
Do you qualify for either the Illinois Commitment or Illinois Promise?

I am currently in Algebra 2, taking AP Precalc over the summer, and then taking AP Calc AB the following year. I might use the extra time to take french 4 so I can have 4 years of everything since I am missing a year. I really appreciate the suggestions for ideas that can help out my application. I am reliable for Illinois Commitment. I plan to apply for a bunch of scholarships during all the time I’ll be given during AVID. Again thanks for the suggestions and help.
