UIUC Class OF 2022 Admissions Thread

I hope you get in too!
Based on the decisions posted on this thread, very specific EC’s and essays can get you into CS at UIUC if you’re SAT scores are in the 75th percentile.
Would’ve been an advantage If they had considered your Subject Test scores too.

Your stats are seriously amazing and I’m sure you’ll get into many great schools! Don’t stress too much about not getting in. I’m sure you’ll be successful wherever you go:) @Ccada3300

@Ccada3300 @Ramkbh I am Indian CBSE

Result : Rejected
Major: CS or EE
SAT: 1440 (my most probable reason of rejection)
SAT II: 800 Math , 800 Physics , 800 chem
CBSE grade 10 - 10/10 CGPA
Grade 12 predicted scores - 96.4 %
Had average ECs, 1 internship, 1 summer program (both about Robotics), 350 hours of volunteer hours, some sports achievements (nothing so special), 13 MUNs - 6 awards, verbal mention at IIMUN which happened at UN hHQ at NY.
Good essays ( atleast thats what I thought)
But mostly got rejected because of my SAT score and the lack of highly compensating ECs.

Result : Accepted
Major: Communication
SAT: 1420 (800 M and 620 Eng)
SAT II: 790 Math
AP : psychology, macroeconomics, Calculs AB
GPA : 3.53 (pretty low)

  • Bunch of EC

congrats to everyone who got in

I really dont have a strong feeling one way or another regarding the Chief, but in doing some research, Illinois’ attendance in both basketball and football is directly related to the success on the field/court. Bad teams, especially in football, have never drawn well at Illinois.

I got waitlisted for CS and accepted the offer to be waitlisted. What are the chances of me getting off the waitlist and accepted? How many people get off the list?

Really confused. I got rejected from CS and accepted to my second choice major (Physics) and got into the Arts and Sciences James program?!?!? Is CS that selective?

@Wecount Most definitely do the program change, that’s how I got in! I was offered pre-engineering instead of CS Eng, so I changed my first choice major to Math & CS and my second choice major to Stats & CS. I got into Math & CS RD.

Anyone get their financial aid yet?

Got the “financial aid”, only loans, useless…OOS no way to attend UIUC.

@Kentriko When did you get it?

Yes, got email link to “financial aid” tonight. Same deal, just loans. But we are in state, so comparable to other out of pocket costs at privates and Big 10s with merit. The real bargain is Nebraska! Can I talk my daughter into Nebraska?

Tonight

@Kentriko @bobo44 Were you guys accepted EA? I got accepted EA in state and have yet to hear back.

Yes EA

@Ramkbh I was wait listed for CS with a SAT score of 1540, PCM subject tests all 800, ICSE 99 % and IB 42/42 Grade points (w 4HLs). So ya UIUC is messed up

Hello, are you sure? I emailed my counselor who spoke with the review committee and told me they would not approve any program changes at this time

@ReqCollatz Yes, CS Engineering is very selective, probably the most difficult major for admission along with BioEngineering. There are a very limited number of spaces and tons of highly qualified applicants as it is a top 5 program in the nation. In past years, you can find reports of people rejected with 35-36 ACT and nearly perfect grades, lots of AP etc. According to the News Gazette, last year there were 4300 applications for 215 seats.

Physics and Engineering Physics are not oversubscribed, so you would just need to be solidly in the middle of the ACT/GPA profile range for LAS or Engineering to have a good chance for admission.

@illinoisx3 would there still be room in CS + Chem?
