Congrats, @llamamama1714! Filled it out correctly and has a super option in his pocket. He may have the hard but fun job of making a choice
Congratulations!
Just learned that my son received unconditional offers from St Andrews for Russian and from Edinburgh for Russian studies & linguistics! So happy for him! Now to plan a trip to Scotland for February break. He’s has a few applications left to submit for US schools, and waiting on decision from Trinity in Dublin, but I think his heart is set on Scotland.
Congrats, @llamamama1714!! What great choices to go forward with
Congratulations!
@llamamama1714 , my daughter and I just got back from our trip to Scotland (visited Glasgow and Edi, and B’ham in England.) Both schools in Scotland were wonderful, but I think she is in love with Edinburgh
We have a good friend studying Russian there, actually, like your son. Enjoy your trip in February!
Many of the selective schools in the US prefer that you show them some love. One way to do that is visiting the school.
Is it that way with the UK schools? From what I’ve seen on this thread and others, it seems kids are applying sight unseen and visiting after getting a conditional (or unconditional) acceptance.
I was thinking if my S23 were to continue his interest in studying overseas, then I was planning to do a trip to the UK the summer after junior year. I’m waiting almost until the last moment to do a trip to the UK in the event he just wants to stay in the US for school (my preference).
UK unis are much more quantitative in their admissions than those in the US. For most, if you meet their stated typical offer, and have a decent LoR & PS (essay on why this subject) a US student is likely to be admitted.* They don’t care if you love them- and they won’t pretend to love you either.
*There are obvious exceptions: St Andrews cares more about GPA than pretty much any other UK uni, and. Oxford, Cambridge, Imperial and LSE are tough admits.
