Vanderbilt [only top 20 to make playboys party list; amazing frats & girls]

Washington and Lee [Known for large greek presence – but school cracking down]

UVA [great social tradition, excellent academics]

University of Michigan [good social scence w/respected degree]

[tie] Lehigh & Tulane [throws great parties, and still ranked top 50]

if you are a prodigy these Ivies can still party:

Dartmouth

UPENN
[NOTE – BIG DROPOFF FOR THIRD]

Princeton [eating clubs, etc.] // Cornell [ugly girls hinder the party scene]

[i wish this list was longer]

Honorable Mentions:

Duke [better academically then my top 5; but most frats/parties are significantly weaker than the ones listed on top]
Penn State [anyone who takes showers regularly can find a mate of the opposite sex to go home with; university park is semi-respected]
University of Georgia [has been increasing selectivity in admissions and is probably one of the best parties on this list; but still UGA wont WOW your employer yet]
UT-Austin [Don’t mess with Texas]
Colgate/Williams [If you are cold, have a beer]
NYU [no campus blah blah whatever; quality bars are in downtown NYC]
UW-Madison [some very social kids; good rep]
Richmond [although the parties arent stellar, the student body is pretty cool as a whole and is social; good academic rep too]
Wake & UNC [both have strong academics and decent parties]
UFlorida and Miami [highly regarded regionally; and can definitely party hard]

HALL OF SHAME:

Harvard: Things got so bad they had to hire a ‘fun czar’

University of Chicago: These kids should be required to take an intro to partying class

John Hopkins: Hard to find good parties. The kids who party hard generally have to go to other colleges in the neighborhood [usually Loyola-Maryland]

When I applied to schools it was important I attend a school with a good social life and competitive academics so I’ve done alot of research on this. I can’t think of anything better than having enjoyable college years while still landing an awesome job. You only get one chance to have the college expierence so its important to have good memories. so look into my top 5 but regardless HAVE FUN and STUDY HARD whereever you go.

yea i should have mentioned UCSB. great academics and good social life. UCSB = U Can Study Buzzed

Penn State isn’t #1 because its a WORK HARD party hard thread. I put Penn State on the list but they are similar to UGA (both would be better if they had more prestige).

Speaking of Tulane (where work hard/play hard is the official theme, u know… At Tulane, first we out think you, then we out drink you…blah blah), it’s just hilarious to see visitors from other colleges, including Vandy, getting sleepy around when Tulane kids are just getting ready to go out. The all-night cafes on campus are filled with drunk students at 5 am, it’s like the school doesn’t sleep… And why would you when the frats are spending 50 thousand dollars on each themed party & renting out bars on Bourbon (all drinks on tab!)… Oh yea, that Calc 2 exam tomorrow…

Ivies can’t party? Of course Ivies can party! Princeton starts its weekend on Thursday. (Go to the Street and get drunk @ the eating clubs, dance, go to dances at other locations. and for those of y’all who don’t like drinking and sex and loud music and hangovers: performances, movies for $2 at the theatres, lotsa game rooms everywhere, a free cafe, etc etc) The weird thing is, around midterms is when there are significantly more campus events – doesn’t really make sense, since you’re sitting in your dorm writing 2239324745 papers. sniff but i’m quite disappointed y’all put P-ton after a big drop off for 3rd, lol.

I’ve heard RIT is work-hard/party-hard as well. The classes are very tough producing a large dropout rate, and to relieve the stress students party hard all weekend, esp. in the cold Rochester winter. Apparently at RIT there’s not much else to do on weekends!

to hallospacegirl – don’t feel bad i put you guys third out of the ivies. First of all, most ivies cant party at all and you got ups on them. Second, many people would gladly trade in their Natty Lite for a Princeton Degree.

to awakenedream – i nearly threw up on the floor when I saw MIT as a “party school”. I know its was 1987 but still haha. Playboy’s rating are the most accurate out of everybody tho. [Princeton Review has SUNY Albany as #1 which is bull. They are definitely not #1 although fountain day is sweet]

Penn totally takes the cake over dartmouth in terms of Ivy partying. I can say this having partied at both. At dartmouth, every party was just a frat basement crowded with ugly people and they only ha beer, and very little beer at that. but at Penn the frat parties were themed with sweet music and tons of awesome drinks. they had kegs, jungle juice, and a bar with nice mixed drinks. and everyone was really into the theme so it got pretty crazy, especially since hte theme was pirates, haha. plus Penn is known as the “party Ivy.” so it should definitely take the number 1 spot over dartmouth.

The “work hard/party hard” idea is a myth. The more you party the less you work. You can’t really do both “hard”, if “hard” means spending a lot of time at it. Only a moron would choose a college because of the parties.

I think the reason females outperform males in college (in terms of gpas and graduation rates) is because they don’t party as much.

A previous poster said RIT has little to do on weekends and has a high drop-out rate. Its drop-out rate is about the same as similar schools (25% in engineering and tech with similar SATs). And, there are plenty of cultural activities and recreational opportunities for sober students.

Rollins is number 3 on the playboy list? Why… I live about 40 minutes from it, and it doesn’t seem too crazy… It’s in a pretty slow part of town…
