UMass Amherst class of 2024 Early Action Results

@miscparentname same thing happened here for computer science. Waitlisted. 1500 SAT GPA 4.2 also not offered 2nd major. And it said certain majors (including his - CS - also business, nursing) even if you get off the waitlist you can’t get into these programs!

very surprised to find out my son waiting list, Asian boy, ACT 36, unweighted GAP 3.75, weighted GPA 4.68, in state, for CS major, 6 APs (5 with 5s, including AP computer science, 1 with 4), already took 3 computer course in schools all with A. National gold and silver award in art, lots of community services and other ECs. what kind of students they are looking for ?

Seems like today was only waitlists and denials

Rejection here too - too bad because he received top scholarships to two private in-state schools and one private out-of-state school and is in one of the final rounds for a national Elks scholarship. Makes the decision easier I guess! Done at UMass after May 2020 then, no more Minutemen in the house! Good luck to any still waiting!

Rejection just a half hour ago. Painful experience. 3.8 gpa 7 AP classes three season athlete/captain. National honor etc. why so late? Really bummed for my daughter. Their process sucks.

My daughter has been waitlisted for Biology.

Son rejected from business school. Act 30 GPA 3.6

Accepted OOS for CS

@IvyBoy123
Congrats. What were your stats?

My understanding is that they issued 14,736 acceptances in December and were only issuing small number of additional to get to just under 15,000 total acceptances for EA. So essentially the vast majority who had not heard were waiting for rejections/waitlists. Maybe UMass could have let people know that?!

My kid was rejected. Would have been nice to know in December so we could have pivoted sooner.

I think there needs to be a conversation about what a State school system owes to it’s residents. Accepting thousands of OOS and international students over qualified instate is problematic. It is purely a way to garner more money. We will likely now play victim to that game as we consider other state schools.

Might sound like sour grapes and maybe it is but our family is now in a financial bind. Looking at an additional $100k-200k in college debt.

Best of luck to all.

Add me to the surprised group. Rejected. 3.7 UW 1270 SAT tons of EC 2 season Varsity athlete captain 2 years.

DS is awaiting a decision (applied RD)…sorry to hear of this many rejections/waitlists! Starting to freak me out a little…my DS’s stats are not as high as some as those posted here… ugh…I’m afraid this won’t go well…

How do you know that they accepted 14,736 students in december?

Email a friend got from admissions.

What really hurts is out of those 14,000+ people accepted, how many have absolutely no intentions of enrolling. And the people whose hearts were so hopeful to attend have been either waitlisted or flat out rejected. I’m sad for my daughter and I’m sad for all those in the same sad boat as my daughter. I’m trying to think in terms of it happened for a reason, and maybe, just maybe that reason is a blessing in disguise.

son rejected from CS, wish the process was more student and parent friendly. Best of luck to those accepted. And to those rejected, you will find the best place for you wherever you go!

Makes me sad to see the rejections since I have no intention of going here, my dad made me apply and I did my essays the day I submitted it.

I actually thought this was a joke when I saw I was waitlisted. Amherst was one of my top safeties.

Top public school in state
In-State
Major CS
GPA 3.73 UW
6 APS All A’s
1550 SAT
Subject Tests: 800 Math 2, 800 Chemistry.

Varsity tennis for 3 years, two times North State champions.

Tons of good extracurriculars and some geared towards stem.

I guess he was actually waitlisted. Sorry to hear all the bad news today. Hang in there everyone! Thanks for making the wait more bearable!

@gretchen101

Not sour grapes at all. Very valid points. Every student and parent feel that once their turn is over it is too late to change. As In state residents, we should ensure our reps hear about our frustration with the process. UMASS is a land grant institute and we pay lot of taxes in MA unlike other states. Let us ensure future MA students with get a more equitable chance at the very least.
