The BDIC program at UMass Amherst enables highly motivated students to design their own majors.

Examples of self-designed majors are Performing Arts Management, Religion and Creative Writing, E Commerce and Entrepreneurship, Social Justice and Outdoor Education, International Relations and International Business, and Addressing Trauma.

The program works well for students who have multiple interests that don’t fit into a single major.

Also for students who have a vision of their future–say you know you want to start an art museum. You can then wrap your studies around your dream (in this case, take art classes, entrepreneurship classes, etc.).
