UMass Amherst - Optional SRAR

UMass Amherst indicates that students submitting SRAR (Self Reported Academic Record) is optional, yet “highly encouraged.” They will get an official transcript from the HS regardless. Have applicants been doing this? Many say that there is no such thing as “optional” in college admissions.

Seems like it more for the convenience of the school, as well as another check against errors in transcript conversion. Otherwise, the school will try to convert the transcript into an SRAR-like format, and may make mistakes. Presumably, the applicant is more focused on trying to avoid mistakes in standardizing the transcript on the SRAR.

if you are applying to other schools needing SRAR like penn st then this looks like a convenient option.
