Did you guys pay the 12 thousand? As a low-income, I have no idea how I would be able to afford
I just got into the Riley lab! Results took 2-3 weeks to come back after my teacher submitted the rec
Is your son attending Riley lab? I got into a local lab in my town with one on one with a PhD. Not a prestigious lab but will work closely with PhD. Iām confused. Which one should I do? Did you son into another program too?
Did you pay the 12 thousand yet?
awesome! I got into Alder Lab. Are you going? I donāt know how Im going to pay the 12 thousands
You could apply for a partial scholarship. Under the fees and scholarships sections, it says, āStudents accepted to any 1-week, 2-week or 3-week program may apply for a partial, need-based scholarship. Scholarships are not guaranteed, as funding is limited. Unfortunately scholarships are not available for the 6-week Research Intensives, with the exception of the Adler Lab. See below to learn how to apply.ā I think the deadline to apply for the scholarships are April 15.
no, I only payed the $500 thing.
Yes! But I need a full scholarship because partial scholarship is only one thousand dollars and the total cost is 12,000 so I wonāt be able to afford the full cost.
Maybe you could email them to see if you could get a larger scholarship.
Who all are attending? The full deposit is due soon.
Yes my son will attend Riley lab. he also got into another college research program, and a local research program with labs. He decided to go with Riley Lab, because itās a better fit for his interest in pathogen research. I donāt know your local lab so cannot offer much advice there, but I think you should go with your interest?
I just found out that I got into SSTP at Univ of Iowa. This conflicts with Riley lab. Tough decision for me to make. Your son sounds amazing! Best of luck to him Secondary Student Training Program - Belin-Blank Center
That sounds a wonderful option too! Congratulations!
Iām pretty sure SSTP is more prestigious/competitive because they release acceptance rate and itās like ~15%. UMass doesnāt release so I donāt know if it compares. If you have any more info on UMass or know people who went in the past pls lmk.
With most labs in UMass accepting only 2-4 students, I wonder what their accept rates look like.. I mean, if a lab only accepts 2 students, donāt they just need 14 applications to have a 15% acceptance rate? I did call UMass before and asked about their acceptance rate. They said they want to encourage students to apply, so they donāt collect and share the data so students may be discouraged.
Good job on getting accepted! A lot of people on Reddit got alternative, me being one of them, so I think that option is pretty competitive too. I think it also costs less.
I think I will be going, but the price is insane
