Hook: My father tried to kill my mother and me. When I was seven years old, I was diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder. I would have panic attacks every morning before school. Eventually the stress got to me; I dropped out in the eighth grade. My sister died of a heroin overdose that year. On the day of her funeral, my brother was arrested, and I have not heard from him since. Upon turning sixteen, I attended Job Corps and attained my GED. When I was seventeen I became homeless. My mother and I moved to Florida where I started working fourteen hour days of carpentry. I had no time to study. Whenever I did get personal time, I was too busy studying etymology and morphology to concentrate on math. With twenty aunts and uncles, I will be the first person in my entire family to attend college.

Thanks for your time!
