I am planning to major in pharmacy but am having a hard time making a decision on where to go. Umass lowell just annouced they are opening a pharmacy school 2017 which will be the first public administration for this major in Ma and it will be aided with Umass medical school.
MCPHS:
Pros: City life, Major hospitals, small student body, intimate faculty, 45 min away from home, basically guaranteed a job
Cons: everyone is majoring in a health science , 30K a year (6years), traffic and cramped, dorm is only for 1st years and the rest of the time is either commuting or renting an apartment ( I guess its not as bad if you find a room mate)
Pharmacy is something definite I want to do. Yet I fear I may not get to experience the full fledged college life. Its like my career is carved out for me. I’ll be working for the rest of my life so I want to relax a little. (I know college can be anything but relaxing) The reviews for the other majors arent notable as pharmacy and the overall ranking is less than Lowell.
UMASS Lowell
Pros: 1 hr away, diverse and large student body, academic resources and faculty, strong science cores and other majors all around, lower cost of 16K a year, ranked higher than MCPHS, pharmacy major
Cons: A brand new program ( dont know what to expect), not as many major hospitals compared to Boston,
If I go , I will be the first class to graduate from their pharmacy program. However I wonder if I can trust the outcome of this new program based on Lowell’s reputation. Taking this risk could end up bringing a lot of success or a lot of regret At the same time I want to be guaranteed a satisfying career like MCPHS
I’m desperate and full of indecsion. D:
Need some advice!!!
