Umass transfer student social life

I was accepted into UMass for the spring semester and waitlisted for the fall. If I do not get accepted to the fall, I will transfer from another university for the spring. I got into my dream/ reach school but will not attend because it is so expensive. UMASS was my backup because it is so affordable, but unfortunately I applied after the deadline, which I think really hurt my admission. I will likely enroll in my top choice school in may and attend for a semester if not admitted to umass off the waitlist. It’s not ideal, but it is what it is.

My question is, if I do have to transfer int he spring, how will that hurt me socially? Will I miss out big time with friends and making connections? I am outgoing and plan to join clubs, but I am afraid that I will have have a difficult time establishing myself socially if i come in late…

It’s not like everybody finds all their friends the first week, and these groups insulate themselves and never talk to anyone outside their group.

A lot of your social activities will revolve around your dorm and your classes, and these change every semester or every year.

Your plan is perfect - be outgoing, join some clubs, and get involved.

You will be fine. Transfers are not pariahs.
