I am an international student and I’m currently losing my mind because i find it so hard to choose which college to attend. I have been admitted to five schools (Seton hall university, NC state university, James Madison university, University of Delaware and UMass Amherst) and I have narrowed it down to Umass, Nc state and Udel. The major I have chosen is International Business, even though I’m not 100% sure that I’ll continue on with this program. I’d like to know which school is generally better amongst these three.
I can’t speak to the international business programs at these schools. But all are very good schools, and I don’t think there is a significant difference between academics at the different schools. Delaware has a very beautiful campus. The other two are nice but not quite as beautiful. If you want very nice weather, NC State would offer mild winters. The school also has excellent engineering/science courses if that is of interest to you. Raleigh is a terrific city. A big advantage at U-Mass is that it is a member of the area consortium of universities, which also includes Smith College, Mount Holyoke College, Hampshire College, and Amherst. Students can take classes at any of these schools. That’s a unique opportunity. The campus has some old ugly concrete dorms/buildings but has improved greatly in recent years. Amherst is a classic college town with U-Mass at one end and Amherst at the other. It will be very cold and probably snowy there during the winter. Will you be able to climb out of a warm bed at 8 or 9 in the morning to walk through a blustery wind to class?
Delaware is in between in a couple of respects: weather and the size of the local/quality of the local community. More to do than around Amherst, I think, but not as much nice available as in Raleigh. Sports will be much bigger at NC State. It belongs to the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) and plays big-time football and basketball. Good luck!
Consider where you would like to work after graduation. For example, If you want to work in New England, I would pick Umass
@WildestDream, as an international, working in the US after graduation is likely not a possibility for OP.
Thank you, your comment was really helpful
In terms of academics, it’s NC State, UMass/UDel, JMU, and then idek why you’re even considering Seton Hall. NC State is easily the best of all five and has the best location by far as well (state capital of Raleigh, prime location for internships).
I don’t think NC State is ahead of either UDelaware or UMass-Amherst academically. I am not one to make a decision solely by rankings but the rankings can help determine what tier a college falls into. In the USNWR rankings Umass-Amherst is 74, UDelaware is 79, (so I would consider those two peer institutions) and NC State falls a bit lower at 92 for National Universities. James Madison is considered to be a regional university. I would also eliminate Seton Hall.
NC State should be rated at least on par with the other two, considering it is the second flagship of one of the most respected public u systems in the country…USNWR has that wrong. Kind of a Northern bias IMO.
I guess we will have to agree to disagree on this one. I think there is a notable gap between the flagship UNC and NC State.
Fair enough. But I think there are people who would agree with me that NC State is definitely stronger than both UMass and UDel.
I have consulted many websites and they all put UDel above UMass and NC State
…how? UDel is probably the weakest of the three lol
