My unweighted gpa right now is a 3.33, but after my junior year ends, it should be a 3.42ish and I know that is still pretty bad for UMD, but on the new sat, I scored a 1480/1600, with a 740 in math and 740 in reading/writing.
All of my friends are saying that I’m almost guaranteed to get in, but I wanted some other opinions
I would say to never use the word “guaranteed” when talking about colleges, but you’re pretty likely to get in. UMD is a great school, but their standards aren’t insanely high. With those great SAT scores in addition to good essays, EC’s, and recommendations, you should be likely to get in for sure!
Given good extracurriculars, I think you have a great shot. I got into Computer Science with similar test scores (with subject tests too) and a little bit higher GPA (with a good amount of merit scholarships too). I applied as an out-of-state applicant. Be a little careful with their LEPs, however (Limited Enrollment Programs).
Yeah my intended major is the biological sciences major which I know is an LEP along with pre-med so I’m kind of worried. And I would HATE to be placed in freshman connection. As for EC’s I think I’m very unique, but I’ll let the admissions committee be the judge of that.
7 MORE MONTHS OF UNCERTAINTY !
@currentsp27 I’m in the same position as you. [For anyone else reading this: What other options do we have if we still want to do a pre-med route but don’t want to apply for an LEP]
I mean (assuming your goal is med school) you can be any major and still do pre-med and get into med school. Many prospective med school students are physics, philosophy, and more humanitarian majors. That being said, I think, if you want to do med school and umd is your goal undergrad school, the bio program will prepare you best. But if you don’t want LEP, you could choose the kinesiology major. It is very related to human physiology/structure/functions, and is not an LEP.
