UMD College Park 2012 Chances

Hi, I’d really like to be in the DC area for college, as it has the best resources for pre-law/international relations, the two things I’m considering. What are my chances for admission to UMD? Also, what’s UMD’s academic reputation compared with that of GW and American, two other schools I’m thinking of.

Here are my stats:

White Male
Junior from New Jersey

UW GPA: 90/100 (3.5/4)
W GPA: 93/100 (3.8/4)
No grade inflation at my high school, honestly it’s a below average high school in NJ with a majority of minorities.
SAT: 2000/2400, 1300/1600 (730 CR, 570 M, 700 W)
Took AP History exam a couple weeks ago
Will take SAT IIs: World History and English

Honors and AP Courses taken through high school, toughest course load available.
National Honor Society
NJ Boys State Delegate

3 Years Varsity Swimming (not captain as I was an underclassmen), All-County, All-League,
All-State honors acheived, Junior Olympics with club team
3 Years Track and Field (1 Year JV, 2 Years Varsity)

President of Keystone Club 2010-11 (leadership group associated with the Boys and Girls Clubs), VP 2009-10, Sergeant-at-Arms 2008-09, NE Regional Leadership Committee 2010
Appx. 400 volunteer hours logged
Boy of the Year 2009 with the Boys and Girls Club
Work experience for 2 years as a lifeguard

I don’t know if it factors into the application but my major hobby and passion is making music. I’m a recognized producer/DJ in and around northern NJ/NYC, and I’m “climbing the ladder” to real recognition as a pro, although it’s not ultimately what I want to do unless opportunity really strikes.

I think youre in pretty good shape. I got in for Fall 2012 with similar stats, however I am in-state. I would guess you will get in, but you might not get much merit aid. I highly, highly, HIGHLY suggest applying early action by November 1. Also take 3 or 4 AP’s Senior year. Good luck, and remember: senioritis is so awesome, but it feels so much better to earn it. Work hard through February, slack off a bit, and once you get into college (with the exception of AP’s) you are done.
