Ok…so I have been living in the dorms and have decided that dorm life just isn’t for me plus I could save a ton of money by not staying in the dorms. I have decided to either get an apartment for next semester or commute (I don’t live very far away).
Does anyone know how difficult it is to opt out of UMDCP’s housing agreement? I have asked Resident Life but they won’t give me a very good-straight forward answer. When I look at the release form it:
a) doesn’t give me the option to opt out for Spring 2011 even though Resident Life said I could opt out for Spring 2011 any time before December 1 and
b) I have to give a reason for opting out, which I guess I would put ‘Other’ for an apartment or commuting and describe the situation, but the University can decide whether or not to approve it and I have to provide documentation.
So another question is do you think “I don’t like living in the dorms” or “I don’t want to take out another huge loan to cover room & board costs” is a good enough reason to be allowed to be opted out? I couldn’t picture them denying me the ability to opt out if I just want to save money. I am confused. Someone help Thanks

I would guess that there will be many more trying to GET a room for Spring than trying to get out. I really don’t think you’ll have a problem. Just make sure to beat the deadline …

I don’t know the answer, but if you are taking college loans, and actually live in a commuting distance, I would not think they would deny this at all.

Not saying you have to live at home, just saying for explanatory reasons to UMDCP.

Additionally, I can’t see a huge fight about this because Freshman Connection want to move in for Spring and UMDCP housing is always in a shortage.
