UMD Regular Decision Class of 2024

DD got in-computer engineering.

accepted

My son applied to CS, but was offered an admission to
Major: Letters and Sciences (4901T)
Advising College: Division of Letters and Sciences

Anyone know what this 4901T is? Does this mean he is not getting into CS major?

Same here. From what I’m reading, it’s similar to being “undecided”. But my son clearly chose computer science for his major. This particular major is popular and is deemed a Limited Enrollment Program.

“Certain majors are very popular and require a limit on the number of students they can accommodate and are designated Limited Enrollment Programs (LEP). Students in an LEP major must successfully complete a specific set of courses, or “gateway” requirements by the semester in which they earn 45 credits.”

I’m going to call to seek clarity. I’m new to all of this. I want to make sure we understand what this all means.

Understanding Letters and Sciences
Q: Why was I placed in Letters and Sciences instead of the LEP selected as my preferred major?

If you originally selected a Limited Enrollment Program (LEP) as your preferred major on your application, you may have been placed in Letters and Sciences (LTSC) due to the competitive admission criteria for these programs.

LEPs are very popular and require a limit on the number of students they can accommodate. The determination of whether a student will be admitted into an LEP is made as a component of our holistic application review process. As the number of students who have expressed interest in our LEPs has increased, admission into these programs has become more competitive. If you applied for an LEP but were not found admissible, you were placed in LTSC.

Q: What is Letters and Sciences?

LTSC is an advising college that incoming students are generally placed in for one of two reasons; they want to explore several fields of study before selecting a major or they are pursuing entry into one of our LEPs.

Academic advisors in LTSC will help you explore course possibilities and instruct you on choosing required gateway courses to gain entry to an LEP once all the requirements are met. Because the academic advisors in LTSC are the most adept at helping students gain entry into their preferred major, students are admitted here rather than the second choice major they indicated on their application for admission. To learn more about the resources available to LTSC students, please visit the Letters and Sciences website.

Q: How do I gain entry to my LEP of choice?

As you progress through your educational career at UMD, you will have the opportunity to enter your preferred major as a current student. Each LEP has a series of courses, called gateway requirements, which must be completed before applying to the major. If you are able to successfully complete the gateway requirements, you will be reviewed for admission into the LEP you are interested in. For more information on the specific requirements needed to enter your preferred major, please visit the Limited Enrollment Program website.

Anyone else hasn’t received a decision yet? :frowning:

@ad20016 I Didn’t :frowning:

My D was accepted. We got an email yesterday.

Did you apply towards the deadline?

I am international applicant and i applied on 22nd December. I haven’t received a decision too. Just curious… Where will i be able to check my decision, on the coalition app? This wait has been a bit too long!

@ad20016 I did send my overall coalition app by the final date. However my complete date is like 25th or 26th jan. So the completed date is like 5 or 6 days after the Jan 20 deadline.

Where do you find out if you were accepted

Could anyone please tell me how difficult it is to transfer from Letter and sciences into Computer science LEP. And how many students on average are able to do so?

@SoofDad thankyou

Could anyone please advise me whether it would be right choice to attend UMD College park in Letter and Science college, if I wish to pursue computer science. I mean is it possible to do the transfer from Letter and Science to Computer Science and whether it would be difficult or easy to do so?

Is there anyone else also who hasn’t received his/her decision yet or is it just me?

Replying for my son. We have not heard, although my son completed the application in December 2019. Looks like UMaryland is taking the deadline of April 1 very literally. Frankly, not impressed. It just increases anxiety especially when others have received a decision.

I haven’t heard yet.
