I applied to the University Of Maryland at College Park on Dec 22, 2019. My application was considered COMPLETE on Jan 01, 2020 as per the checklist on the coalition application. I emailed them a couple of days ago as to when the results would be released and i am told today that they haven’t been released for me because my application is INCOMPLETE! I am missing my official high school grades. This is making me furious now!
@College0308 well that’s weird. Maybe you’ll get it tommorow. Their final date is 1st April. I too haven’t heard back yet and my complete date was 25th January. Let’s hope that things turn good for us
I would be angry also! I’m told that if an application is incomplete for any reason, usually the college in question reaches out by email. It is simply unacceptable for the school to go radio silent on something like that especially when you “think” you have done everything correctly. The only thing I can think is that they are waiting for your transcripts (including midterm grades) that are sent from the school. So basically, your application was complete from your end.
I am still waiting to hear and it is officially the deadline date. College0308’s story has me nervous. Look likes if we don’t hear today, I will be calling the school.
I just sent an email. I’m nervous because it looks like we applied under the Early Action deadline of 1 Nov 2019, instead of regular decision. Still, as that window had closed, we should not have had that option. If that is the reason, then words fail me.
@SQBrit I spoke to my school and I see that on the coalition application the school is able to post a minimum of 0 documents and a maximum of 1 document under the transcript category so the school uploaded the latest transcript! Even after that my checklist said that my application was COMPLETE so I didn’t bother any further to have a look. I am furious on the fact that I would not have come to known why my result was not out had I not emailed them! I didn’t receive any mail from them either for the missing document! To be honest this is not acceptable after having put so much effort on each application.
@college0308 I can understand why you are upset. Clearly the 3rd party platform Coalition for College is less than perfect, in which case it is the responsibility of the college to follow up on these gaps or areas of confusion. I’m guessing that we fell through the cracks because of one click error: Early Action instead of Regular Decision. If that is the case and my son was denied because the CfC gave an option that was invalid, I’m tempted to call the school and ask for my application fee back.
@SQBrit I made sure I applied RD instead of EA. Because my EA deadline had already been crossed. I applied on Dec 22, 2019. And my application was declared COMPLETE on Jan 01, 2020. Good luck to you tho
I applied regular decision and haven’t heard a word from them too.
everything on coalition is “complete” and “yes” so I assume theres nothing wrong with my application. Wonder when they are going to tell me whether I’m in or not. Some of the files had this weird “due Nov 1st” but I’m sure I chose regular decision. It’s a myth.
The 1st April deadline has also been crossed by now so I literally have no idea when are they going to update us on our decision.
I still haven’t received my decision
@bellatrix111, yes you are right, there are some sections in the checklist that say the due date is 01 Nov 2019 and some do not. I’m guessing we also applied RD because well…that should have been the only option in December 2019.
The UMaryland admission process feels like a complete shambles to me. They rely upon the Coalition for College for everything and seem caught off guard by the faults in the system.
I received a nice email response from the Admissions Office yesterday and she noted that some of my son’s updates were received after the deadline. I didn’t reply (because it was so obvious, I didn’t see the point) that yes, mid-term grades work like that. They are released MID TERM.
I wonder how many of us there are still waiting for a decision? And now since we made a fuss, we are due to receive a hasty rejection What a fiasco!
@komail11. So your application was complete on 25Jan20 but the deadline posted on the UMaryland webpage says 20Jan20. https://admissions.umd.edu/apply/application-deadlines. Is anyone else confused by how complete is defined?
My son’s application was registered complete 26Dec2019, but I know that additional elements (such as my son’s HS transcripts) were posted later. Most critically, the HS counselor’s recommendation along with the HS midterm transcripts were submitted 10Feb20. I don’t know if this is the sticking point…
@SQBrit yeah, but they said that if sent later than 20th jan, it would be on a rolling basis. I sent it on the 20th though.
Recently accepted students- was your deposit date extended at all, or is it still May 1?
Well… To continue on what all has happened with me… I had sent them a harsh reply as to my application said COMPLETE! and they can not say that my application is incomplete a day bfore the decision date. They replied back by telling me to tell my school to send them my official transcripts. My school did that within a couple of hours and I recieved another reply from them which said that they had received my high school transcripts and now I can expect decision within the next 7-10 business days from now! So I am clearly not getting what “YOUR APPLICATION IS COMPLETE” on the Coalition Checklist means!
@college0308. You have my sympathies. Clearly, CfC is an inadequate application tool, but it is ultimately, the receiving school to recognize the flaws and address the deficits. It is NOT YOUR FAULT. We cannot be expected to think there is a problem when there is absolutely no indication of one! I still don’t know what the story is my son’s application. I was supposed to receive an update yesterday but did not. I told my son about the whole situation and we both agree that this experience has put the school into the outlier bucket for us. Luckily, he has many good options and better application experiences.
On the matter of ED versus RD. And the frequent comments by other applicants and the school itself that early applications is best. Well, my son wasn’t ready to apply to any school for the ED window! And really what is the point of RD if ED gets first pickings? This whole experience has tarnished University of Maryland in my mind.
Can someone please help me I applied to the uni as freshman 2020 international. I received an email that I am required to submit my 9 to 11th grade official school transcripts. However i took the Cambridge O level and A level examinations and I put my final grades on the transcripts. Yet they aren’t accepting this. Every other uni accepted this. So could someone please help me out. Thanks
@komail11, I recommend you reach out to the Admissions office at U Maryland as I did on behalf of my son at: applymaryland@umd.edu. For some reason, this type of situation is cropping up a lot with University of Maryland; maybe this is the first time they have used CfC…who knows? My impression is that they were heavily reliant upon the CfC system and failed on the human touch. I am sure you did not encounter this problem elsewhere, just as I’m sure there are others like us in the same boat. Explain as clearly as you can that the UK has a different testing and grading system (if they don’t know that by now, then there really is no hope!). Explain that you provided the UK equivalent. Explain that every other US university accepted this without issue. Insist that your application is reviewed by the Application Committee and you want to hear by next week. Good luck.
I was told that my son will receive a decision next week. Not very optimistic!
@SQBrit Thank you so much for the help :). I’m going to contact my councilor this Monday and ask her to email them on my behalf and explain the situation as well. I hope your son gets in. Good luck :).
