Hey everyone,

My senior year of high school I decided to attend Virginia Tech and major in Graphic Design. The decision to attend an OOS school was made primarily by the fact that none of the MD schools had a BFA in Graphic Design available. However, after spending a semester studying GD, I realize that it is DEFINITELY not a career I want to pursue. At all.
I want to transfer to UMD and major in english. Unfortunately, my fall semester grades are complete trash.

Total GPA: 2.89
Art & Design: C+
Principles of New Media: B
Drawing I: B-
Intermediate Italian: B+

I know that for under 30 credits they take HS GPA & SAT into account, so here they are:

CR: 660
M: 570
W: 740

GPA UW: 3.79
GPA W: 4.19

3 AP classes and a 4 on the English Lang. exam

To get to the point, am I better off applying as a regular deadline freshman without any of my current college credit, or applying as a transfer? I am in-state. Is there a way I could apply as a freshman, and then transfer all of my art credits as electives later after I’ve been admitted, and thereby “beating the system” more or less?

I feel like my college grades don’t reflect what I am capable of, mostly because they’re all art classes. Not to make excuses, but seriously, art is more subjective than regular academic classes like math or english.
