Hello.

A friend of mine wants to transfer to UMD. Can you please tell what is the transfer gpa for UMD? He is transferring from a 4-year college in the state of Maryland.

There isn’t a set GPA. The higher the college-level GPA, the better the chances, but we’ve seen successful transfers with college GPA’s of 3.0 get in (in=state students)

Well, my friend has been attending UMBC for 2 years, he previously attending Bowie State University. His cumulative GPA at BSU was 3.63, but when he attended UMBC he was bullied and harrassed by other students which is affecting his gpa. He is recently feeling loneliness and isolation because his roommates are not willing to get to know him are close-minded towards. His gpa sits at a 2.932, but he wants to increased the gpa to a 3.0 or higher. He wants to apply by the June 1st deadline. He feels that he is not ready for the March 1st deadline.

He has been in BSU for 1 year (2009-2010)

and UMBC for 2 years (August 2010-May 2011) (August 2011-present)

His academic major is not offer in UMBC and he is experiencing lonliness and depression and misery because he is not doing what he loves in the school, his major is not offer, and he has no friends. He also has a learning disability that is also contributed to this.

He wants to become a journalism major, but he does not have 3 last sets of requirements- 1.) 4 supporting area outside of journalism major and courses that are not communication nor journalism, 2.) intermediate foreign language, and 3.) a higher upper statistic course.

He want to apply to the English as an alternative major if he does not get in to the journalism major. He has also spoken to an transfer adviser from UMD nearly 3-5 weeks ago.

I have a 3.2, and the adviser said i should be “fairly competitive”. In-state with at least a 3.0 gives you a pretty decent chance.

I feel like your friend is actually you.

I agree^^^

Try the transfer. I know many students who have transfered in with lower gpas.

Life is great, can you please give me examples of people or applicants who had low gpa in the 3.0 range and was admitted to UMD? Did you apply to this school?

Having a GPA around 3.0 is safe, especially for an in-state transfer. I would do everything possible to get the application in by the March 1 date…I don’t know if it is like the undergrad deadlines, but applying earlier is (almost always) better.
