UMD vs GWU

Is anyone deciding between UMD and GWU? If so, which are you leaning towards attending and why?

You’ve got another school in the mix

With these two, I think the student needs to visit.

GW is so vastly different - polarizing - your student will know whether yay, I love it - or yuck.

Fortunately, we visited these last summer. But we’re visiting these again Friday and Monday. And I think she’s getting closer to narrowing down what qualities of a school are important to her. But its a toss up right now. Cost-wise, after scholarships, they’re exactly the same.

But are any more coming  More comparisons. Maybe GMU? For accounting - why not? Likely cheaper and close to home. Was AU in consideration or JMU - not far. Or UDel - much closer than Rutgers…or Temple?

Hopefully, after visiting both of these two this weekend, she’ll have a clear favorite.

It’s pretty clear that you all want her to be close. So while options are limited and unfortunately not as robust financially for you - at least there are some good options in the DC metroplex.

She picked accounting for now, but a part of her does want to go into medicine, so we’re keeping that option open. It would be nice to have extra leftover from her college fund to keep for myself, but distance is turning out to be important to her, and my only wish is that she’s in an environment where she feels like she’s going to be able to do her best. So Rutgers, UIUC, Va Tech, are tied for backups. GMU and American are tied for last on her list. With all the acceptances in, I dont think there will be anymore comparisons. Our earliest commitment date is 5/1/24, so we have a few weeks still to research.

Good luck!! Yes, if grad school is possible, $$ do matter.

I wish her luck - it seemed all along UMD was gonna win but…then more schools kept coming.

But yeah, the annual delta x 4 is a lot and you may have to discuss, if it’s the case, that I can help you now but not later.

And run some debt calculators - like borrowing x $$ for 10 years - and frankly, it’d scare the heck out of her (or it should).
