UMD vs. Montgomery College

Which would be better to attend UMD or Montgomery College??

UMD is very big but I heard the lecturers are a little better…
Montgomery College is somewhat smaller with 30 people classes but I heard some lecturers arent good at all…

And what is better??

Live at home and attend Montgomery College or live on UMD campus…

My friend is wondering about it…
He got admitted to both… And he needs to make decision…

He wants to study Computer Science and Montgomery college has a very good CS program…

Montgomery College - Rockville is the campus he got into…

Would UMD-CP have a comparable CS program???

UMD. More reputation and has a good CS program as well.

Er… Montgomery College is a 2 year community college. You don’t ‘get in’ you just enroll…

Also, even though Montgomery College is one of the better/best CCs in the country, UMD is a very good public… Theres a major difference between a research university and a cc.

MC has several 4-yr programs even though its primarily 2 yr…

And MC has an admissions department… Its not an open enrollment college… At least not the honors program, and thats what is valued…

Montgomery College is the second best community college in America. Your sure to get a good education, plus its free if you have 3.0 and above. Also its close to home and small class size. But you sometimes wont have a truly educational atmosphere especially in the remedial classes. UMD is great if your in the HONORS program, otherwise its a sweatshop for education with like 100 people in a classroom. It all depends, do you want a true college exprience, or do you want to get your education and start your career without the hoopla and debt. Either way you will get the best public education money can buy especially since suburban D.C. is so rich with opportunities and Montgomery county is the most uber suburbia.

Okay, sorry. Didn’t get the joke.

Montgomery College is not REMEDIAL
although it does have a few level 0 classes but so does UMD, St.Mary’s, UNC, Duke, and other big schools…

Montgomery College some really cool classes:

Math = Linear Algebra, Number Theory, Intro to Chaos Theory, Differential Equations I,II, etc.

Science = Astronomy, Chemistry, Physics (tons of Physics)

English = A lot of creative writing courses

History = Everything from US History to Philosophy

Social Studies = Tons of Psychology, Sociology, International Relations Courses, etc…

Yea, it does have REMEDIAL courses… Not everyone is perfect… Some people have troubles in a subject and want to re-learn to remove any learning GAPs…

UNC has a bunch of its students enrolling in a remedial course…
My friend reenrolled in Precalc when he got there
