My son got acceptance at the 3 for CS program and need help in deciding
@Adityatulsian -The hour-long Ask the Expert has ended, and I’m sorry I didn’t get to your question, so I’m going to take a stab at it now. However, this is an area where I’m really reluctant to weigh in unless I know a student and his or her background well. There are so many factors that lead to making sound college decisions, ranging from “finances” to “fit.” Your son has enviable options. Michigan and UIUC (especially recently and in tech fields in particular) are more renowned in most circles. Yet if money is at all an issue in your household–as it is in most–then Rutgers, the in-state option, is probably the smart choice. What teenagers–and sometimes even their parents–don’t always realize is how fast four years will fly by. So if you can save a bundle by selecting Rutgers for undergrad, your son might be able to attend debt-free, and there should still be money in the family coffers for a snazzy out-of-state graduate school later on, if grad school is indeed in his future.
But, before committing, your son needs to thoroughly look through the course catalogs at these three universities to see how the CS programs vary and if one of them cries out to him the loudest.
