The Ann Arbor campus of the University of Michigan received a record-breaking number of undergraduate applications this admissions cycle.
The Ann Arbor university got 115,125 applications from prospective first-year and transfer students for fall 2026, according to a Feb. 26 University Record update.
This number is a 29% increase in applications in the past five years and is in line with several consecutive years of record-high volumes, according to the University Record.
Prospective first-year students count for 108,666 applications and another 6,459 applications make up the transfer student pool.
Although first-year applications for fall 2026 slightly decreased from 2025, there was a 4% increase in applications from first-generation in-state students, a 3% increase in applications from African American in-state students, 1% increase in applications from students of color and 5% increase in applications from international students.
Applications from potential transfer students increased by 5%. Specifically, the transfer application count increased by 9% from first-generation students, 7% from students of color, 3% from international students and 7% from low-income students.

Insane. I did note the small year over year decline in first-year applicants, about 500 (.5%)
I wonder if that’s the demographic falloff from the GFC rearing its head.
