The email doesn’t give the results; it only says “go check the portal.”
People predict a crash because they have happened in the past. The emails only say “hey go log on to the portal,” they don’t give the result directly…at least that has been our experience with other schools
I have been on CC for awhile and am not a spammer. I have it from a good source that decisions will start rolling out tomorrow, Thursday! Good luck to everyone.
Weren’t the emails “congratulations you’re in!”
That is incorrect. The email says congratulations if you have been accepted. Please stop comparing what other schools do to what U of M will do.
As a parent with 3 kids at Michigan and one anxiously waiting to hear, maybe I can clear up some possible misperceptions based on our experience. As far as timing of releases, it is correct that Michigan usually releases on the Friday before winter break. This year that is the 23rd. I had one lucky enough to hear the last Friday before break and that was on the 19th. Those who believe break begins today are incorrect - finals go through tomorrow and many others like myself still have kids in Ann Arbor taking them. Also employees of Michigan are on a different schedule than students and their winter break begins on Monday the 26th, not the 22nd or 23rd. So they may release early or stick to tradition - I certainly don’t know. As far as the speculation that it will take days to roll out releases and therefore they need to release early I can only talk about our experience. First it is incorrect that Michigan cannot handle communication to a very large e-mail list at once and therefore needs days to release decisions. There are over 46,000 students and very often e-mail blasts are sent to all students AND their parents so they can handle large volume. The confusion seems to be over when portals are updated with the coveted ‘View Decision’ box versus when students receive their e-mails from admission. It is true that the portal is often updated before e-mails are either released or any individual gets theirs. We have had an experience where the portal and e-mail were available nearly simultaneously and also where the decision is on the portal and the e-mail comes a few hours later. Not sure about the speculation of taking days to roll out their decisions because that has not been our experience. Generally a vast number of EA applicants will get their decisions at nearly the same time, with or without an e-mail, but then there are always additional students, but it seems very few, who may not get their decision until a day or two later. Not sure why. What crashes Wolverine Access (which is in full use for existing students and for teachers trying to upload grades) is that once someone starts reporting that decisions are released (likely on College Confidential!) tens of thousands of anxious applicants try to log in or log in over and over to get their decision. It may take a few attempts but the system generally is available pretty quickly. So that has been our experience and my son would love to get his decision today also but who knows and good luck to all of you! Michigan is a remarkable university!
looks like we wont have a decision today, as its past 3 pm est
No they give you your decision in the email you don’t have to check portal my friends posted screenshots of their acceptance emails saying congrats
@ab2020 it’s only 2:11 PM EST…
You guys ever think maybe they were never behind schedule, and it was their intention to release on 12/23 all along?
@ab2020 it is not past 3pm EST. It is 2:15 right now on the East Coast.
Have to say it was exciting to type!
Alas perhaps not today but soon we will all know…I love all the speculation and estimation.
Kinda like election night…so much going on!
Everyone has an opinion!

@Eeeee127 they update the portal first. I’ve been through this a couple of times. The email will follow hours later.
If only I didn’t have to work on essays for other schools…literally cannot focus at all. Too anxious! :-S

Just an observation. I find it so interesting that Michigan has approximately 30,000 applications for EA and release decisions in December. UVA on the other hand had approximately 16,000 EA and they even say they can’t possibly take proper time to review those by December, hence the January 31 decision date. I wonder if that is why Michigan has so many deferred students that then seem to get accepted in February and March. It is almost as if they don’t have the chance to thoroughly review all 30k apps. Just an observation.
I mean if you don’t have time to review all applications then don’t offer a freaking early action plan
I hope it’s released today… they’re teasing us on twitter.
i physically cannot wait another hour for these decisions
At this point I’m not even sure I want to hear it. A denial would absolutely wreck me with all this suspense.
