umm HOUSING

If I am not sure I necessarily want to attend washU yet, should I still turn in my housing application soon? Does turning the housing application mean you are making a binding commitment to attending the school??

I do not think turning in your housing application makes you obligated to attending WashU. I also don’t think that you get any bonus from turning the application in before the deadline (i.e. I don’t think that you would be more apt to get your top housing choice if you application was sent in earlier than the deadline). Maybe if you wait until the deadline, you will know whether you want to attend or not.

Freshman year my daughter was originally to have a roommate who came to a freshman orientation weekend over the summer (thus selected her class schedule), was assigned a room, AND had paid her deposit to attend. She subsequently attended another school and D was assigned a new roommate before school ever started!

Once you send in your deposit, you have made a comittment. Should you later decide not to honor that comittment, you will lose your deposit. Unfortunately it does occur and the term for it is “summer melt”.
