Is that even allowed!? I’ll be a freshman at Columbia College Chicago studying fashion merchandising next school year. I still have a strong interest in attending law school and working in intellectual property law so I’m wondering if getting my undergraduate degree from an unaccredited art school will harm my chances (or even worse, nullify) me from getting into reputable law schools. Thank you! (Actually, I’m not sure if the school is accredited or not, just that the credits won’t transfer anywhere. I’m really ignorant of all this stuff)

in almost every case, your school must be regionally and nationally accredited to even apply to accredited law schools. you are likely closing a lot of doors by picking the path you are going down.

Gah, I suspected as much.
Thank you.

CCC is an accredited institution: <a href=“Page Not Found - Columbia College Chicago”>Page Not Found - Columbia College Chicago;

You won’t nullify your chances, but I do imagine you’ll have to work harder than most to prove yourself, especially with such a vocational major. Looking around Columbia College Chicago’s website a bit, it’s clear that they do offer some academic (as opposed to vocational), rigorous looking classes, so choose your electives wisely. You might also be less-exposed to the type of courses that will naturally strengthen LSAT “skills,” so bear that in mind. You WILL stand out from the crowd ;-)

You could paint your situation a little differently if you had an interesting and viable plan for combining fashion merchandising with law (imaginary example: working in-house for a designer or clothing brand. I made that up, but you get the idea).

Thank you! Actually, working for a fashion company’s legal department is my ultimate goal. I am concerned that my choice of school combined with a major generally considered weak will also harm my chances so perhaps switching to something more difficult/impressive is in order.

My mom claimed that the school’s accreditation wasn’t viable or something but I’m thinking she just said that to discourage me from attending, haha.
