Unambitious kids at your school

Do you have any unambitious kids at your high school? Like they dont do much but yet they get into good schools and act like idiots but are genuinely smart?

I had this kid in my AP Bio class last year who got 100% on literally every test (my teacher always read off who got the top score and it was always him.) He slept during class, and when he wasn’t sleeping he was complaining about something; lack of extra credit, too much homework. On the day of the final he asked me “so what’s in photosynthesis?” ON THE DAY OF THE FINAL. Which he got 100% on and I got an 87% on. I hate kids who can effortlessly get As in hard classes

This is my child and it frustrates the living daylights out of me. It worries me that she won’t have good a good work ethic in her future.

I wouldnt worry at all! It is just how kids are, its great that you care so much and it will only help her more! @tutumom2001

I totally understand how you feel, I created this thread for people to vent @nyuhopeful44

@tutumom2001, that was also my son when he was in high school. He took 2 1/2 gap years and discovered that his passion is helping Syrian refugees, because that’s what he did in Jordan for 3 months, then Lebanon for the same amount of time. He wanted to just stay in the Middle East for good, but people told him he really needed a college degree, even to do volunteer work. So he attended our local school this semester and made the best grades he EVER has, and got on the Dean’s List. This fall, he will attend the American University of Beirut while volunteering in the camps. He has done a LOT of work to make this possible. We will pay his tuition, but he is covering everything else. He has turned around 180 degrees. I wouldn’t have thought it possible! So your child may yet surprise you.

That is such an amazing and inspiring story! @MaineLonghorn

@writer80, thanks! Yes, it blows my mind that the kid who made me tear my hair out a few years ago has become so altruistic.

Haha! You must be very proud! @MaineLonghorn

Yes, for sure. I go to a private high school that charges 30k a year. Parents believe that they can buy their child’s way to success and an Ivy League school. This is one of the biggest downsides to going to my school. Especially because I came from a public school where kids in AP classes are muchhh more motivated and understand that they have fight their way to the top.

Wow, that must be aggravating @owl16548 and when the kids get rejected, the parents get angrier! I think if the kids can move on, so should the parents
