UNC Biology

How hard is UNC biology for a solid, but nowhere near genius, student (1520 SAT [well, actually 34 ACT])? I see on the UNC registrar’s website that the average GPA for biology is around 2.7, but I imagine that the huge intro classes also have a big impact on that, and it’s undergraduate only, so it doesn’t look like grad classes that undergrads take are factored in. Just how difficult is it to pull a 3.7+?

It’s not the biology that gets you, it’s the chemistry and physics classes required for the bio major.

But anyways, looking at the stats on the registrar’s website, it seems that it’s reporting the average GPA of bio classes, not the average GPA of bio majors. Thus, you can get a lower grade in a bio class, but pull your GPA up with humanities classes (compare average BIOL with say ART or CHIN).

I think that the huge lecture halls really affect gpa…generally science majors have lower gpa than lets say theatrical majors.

I guess my main concern is just that grades seem to be tougher to come by at UNC than other public schools. The average GPA according to gradeinflation.com is around 3, while UVA and W&M are around 3.2, and other public schools with lower SAT averages are still frequently higher.
