UNC Chapel Hill 2024 Transfer Admissions Official Thread

Last year they took 0 transfer students off the waitlist I believe. It’s astonishing low. This is my second time and I’m considering it a “kind rejection” because it basically is

I got in!! Can’t believe it.

Congrats everyone! I created my Onyen but it won’t allow me to go into the housing portal and says “Login to StarRez portal failed: login error please try again” do I have to wait a certain period to gain access to the application portal??

Sadly I got waitlisted. Congrats to everyone that got in.

rejected sadly. seems like transferring in is getting more and more competitive. congrats everyone

My S22 was just admitted as a junior transfer (current sophomore at our state flagship). He is a psychology major and I think has around a 3.8. He is in at UGA as well. He really wanted to move to a part of the country with better weather and get away from New England. He had a very good HS record (3.7 UW/4.1 W) but not at the level to apply to schools like UNC so I’m very happy for him.

Didn’t anybody get a financial aid package?

No, UNC won’t even get our FAFSA until the end of April apparently.

On the housing website it says it may take a few days for your account to work with the UNC system! If it isn’t working by the end of next week I would call!

Just want to say a few things to anyone who didn’t open a favorable decision today: 1) UNC is not the end all be all. Many of us are in-state, and how fortunate is that?? North Carolina has countless amazing institutions that you can go to for incredibly affordable prices. 2) This doesn’t have to be the end of your UNC dream. There is plenty of opportunity for other routes of acceptance, just takes patience. 3) What name your degree boasts really doesn’t matter as much as people think. I know a lot of us wanted that shiny chapel hill emblem, but working hard, and NETWORKING LIKE YOUR LIFE DEPENDS ON IT, will ultimately prove to be indescribably valuable.

It’s getting harder and harder to transfer into UNC, don’t diminish your accomplishments just because of a rejection. You worked hard and that in itself is something to be proud of. There will always be more qualified candidates than there are seats.

Anyway, rejection obviously sucks. But this moment will not define college for you by any means, and certainly not your professional life! That’s laughable to even think. It sucks but things are gonna turn out exactly how they should!

Hey!! Woah I am not familiar with using this and found this through Reddit. Anyway hello! I transferred in the fall of 2023 through C Step. I am also an Orientation Leader so hopefully I will meet you guys ! :cowboy_hat_face: As I will be working in the three transfer orientations.

If you have any questions or need advice on integrating within Carolina - don’t be afraid to reach out! 🩵

What are the on campus housing options for transfers?

There are a variety of options to select from regarding housing especially for transfers whether you’d want to live off or on campus (freshman are required to live on campus)!

RLPs (Residential Learning Programs) are offered in various resident halls and are great ways to become familiar with the people in your hall with one specifically made for Transfer Students (“Transfers United”) which is in Morrison Residence Hall (Suite-style). There is also an RLP made for first generation students and another made for members of the LGBTQ+ community. You can apply for RLPs through the Carolina Housing portal, though they’re limited so I would recommend applying for them as soon as you have the opportunity to.

A lot of transfers tend to live in Morrison, Carmichael, Craige North, the on-campus apartments (Rams Village), or choose to live off-campus. Though there are plenty more options to choose from such as Old East, Old West, Connor, Parker, and more; that you can view on the Carolina Housing website through the Explore The Halls tab or on the portal with the options that are offered.

It’s important to acknowledge that some residence halls have limitations/requirements to live in such as McClinton being a women-only residence hall or Cobb Residence Hall hosting mainly Honors Carolina first year students. Also Avery Residence Hall being offline for the upcoming semester as they’re doing renovations to the building. I would suggest to explore and gain information on the halls/apt to see which would be your best fit as some residence halls are corridor style or suite style; also another question to add is whether you’d want to live on north (Lenoir Dining Hall) or south campus (Chase Dining Hall) as well.

Hey! I checked the Carolina Housing website and it said “Transfers United houses approximately 30 students in Morrison Residence Hall” unless this information is outdated as that is where I received the info. Regardless still a good program to be a part of if you’re interested!

It seems there is conflicting information regarding where Transfers United is. On one page it states it is in Morrison and lower down (on the same page) it says it’s in Carmichael. On the residence hall page for Carmichael it also says that Transfer United is located there, so I’m just gonna go with Carmichael but people who want it can try for both.
