Waitlisted, only applied for RD round, out of state
Same with my D25, also just got accepted! We assumed an EA waitlist was a dead end, but it seems like they treated it as a deferral to RD!
OOS, 4.0 uw, I.B. student, 34 ACT.
I had a friend who had that happen last year!
Is it possible to get admitted from waitlist for oos with high need?
Possible, yes. Probable? No. Most of the financial aid for oos will be gone by the time they draw from the waitlist, and with the reduction in NIH funding, this wonât be the year it will happen. It honestly may be why full pay oos were taken off the list already. (Thatâs not to say they donât deserve a spot - they likely have higher stats than most in state students.)
There is an Out of State Student Association that helps provide FA grants for OOS students. Financial aid for tuition purposes is not funded by the NIH (as far as I know).
No, itâs not, but if they need to shift money around, meeting need for OOS students will likely not be priority. Taking full pay OOS students will, though.
HmmmâŠ.we get calls and letters all the time asking us for donations. My understanding is that any donations from us help out of state students (again, I can be wrong). Her FA grant was specifically for OOS kids (maybe that changed?).
That being said, I assume it is easier for them to accept students off the WL that do not have high need.
For those with admitted first year students;
My S24 will be Sophomore transfer this fall as a (presumably) 4.0 from Purdue Daniels School of Business with entering major at UNC slated to be Econ/Public Policy pending future application into Kenan Flagler Business School. He has T20 grad school / professional school aspirations.
As a transfer in, I donât believe he will get priority student housing unless he has a specific roommate match request. We are Raleigh natives, and he has multiple friends from his high school and his club sports teammates who are already at Chapel Hill, but made their housing arraignments last fall.
Heâs an extrovert, middle child between two sisters, plays soccer, lacrosse, basketball, and outdoor activities. He lived in a diverse triple dorm room this year and was the roommate who cleaned the room, does his own laundry, lives on a school, dining and workout schedule.
There may be some advantages to an incoming freshman to match up in this situation, especially if coming from out of state.
If your son would like his contact info to investigate, please reach out.
Hi! My D25 applied EA and was waitlisted. Anyone has gotten off the waitlist yet? Thanks!
People were reporting coming off the waitlist on RD day. They were OOS.
It seemed that the people coming off the waitlist RD were put on waitlist in EA.
Yes! It is almost like waitlist for EA really is a deferred/waitlist, with some coming off it at RD.
We are costing UNC this weekend for Admitted Student day. Any chance your you guys will be there. My son is OOS. Undeclared major.
Sorry, no. Purdue had Spring Break last week - he was on UNC campus a couple of times to have dinner with his friends there. He is back in West Lafayette until May 10th I believe.
Has anyone here done the self-guided tour at UNC? We are thinking about doing a last-minute tour, but the admitted studentsâ day and all the guided tours are full. Total bummer since we always like to see the dorms and dining halls, etc.
Weâve done both the scheduled tour and self guided with our three kids - plus multiple campus visits âfor fun-ziesâ over the years.
The Self-Guided is pretty good - you just wonât get a student panel discussion before hand or having an individual student guide to give their personal insights.
The climate should be moderate for the next 6 weeks or so - unless itâs storming - bring walking gym shoes. The Campus isnât that big, but youâre likely going to want to walk it rather than trying to find multiple different parking spots.
The students are also pretty relaxed and understanding - so if you ask some of the kids out infront of the dorms theyâll likely let you into the lobby area and you can ask at the dorm reception areas to see some facilities and perhaps dorm rooms. You may need to go elsewhere to see one of the dining halls.
Some suggested sites:
Old Well
Bell Tower
Polk Place
The Pit
Wilson Library
Carolina Student Union
Coker Auditorium
Morehead Planetarium
Ackland Art Museum
Franklin Street - try walking the entirety for the eats side of campus going west all the way til you hit Carrboro (itâs not that long).
Kenan Memorial Stadium - Dean Smith Center (Dean Dome)
If youâre student is interested in Business - Check out Kenan-Flaglerâs McColl Building and the New Construction site for Bell Hall (Scheduled for completion later this year and supposedly will allow them to -double- the undergraduate business student enrollment at the #6 B-School in the country (US News and World Report Rankings). My MBA is from Carolina KFBS.
Other notables:
Carrboro is a granola-ish town that abuts Chapel Hill and the Carolina Campus and is definitely worth some time to stroll about after you feel youâve had enough of campus proper.
Streets of Southpoint is a larger âupscaleâ shopping/dining complex that is frequented by students and is about a 8-10 minute drive from Campus towards Raleigh.
Duke University Campus is â9 milesâ away and definitely worth a peak - the main Chapel and the Sarah P. Duke Memorial Gardens are places weâve frequented⊠my brother went to undergrad at Duke so despite the Caroline-Duke Rivalry thing, I can admit the also have a nice campus atmosphere.
Have a good visit!
Honestly? Lots of people donât show and donât let them know. We heard them welcome people who said they hadnât RSVPâd. Iâd show up to an admitted student day/
I would call and explain that you want to come. Honestly- I have never heard this happen to any accepted students.
Hi! Has there been any movement off the waitlist at UNC Chapel Hill? Thank you!
