CBM5H: On my son’s UNC portal, once you click thru some things there was a link to a Global Connect info session for either next Tues or Wed at 4p. We signed up.

Highly doubt a highly rejective public school is going to pay for someone to come to a visit day. They don’t need to attract students.
I also got waitlisted. 4.5 weighted weighted gp, 12 AP/IBs. The waitlist says decision wont be available until June and it literally says go ahead and choose another school and give your deposit. They themselves know it won’t happen!

D is super disappointed…it was her first choice. Got accepted to NCSU an hour after opening her UNC email, so that took a little sting away. Only knows of 1 UNC acceptance in her friend group - that gal took DE classes (i.e. higher GPA/rank) and slightly better EC but otherwise similar, all others are weight listed as well. One of her favorite teachers has said several times she’s always surprised at who UNC accepts and who they don’t. Best of luck to all that got great news yesterday!

KMN17: Thanks, we will do the same. I created a Private Facebook page for parents of admitted students to the Costa Rica program, as a place to discuss the option.
My daughter graduated (OOS) but during her years there they did not pay. Of course it does not hurt to ask.
Thank you for your reply - I think we now know what the Robertson outcome will be since my kid got her denial from UNC yesterday. She was pretty deflated - 4 years of intense rigor for a rejection. Lots of other kids with even better stats than mine facing the same issue - I feel for these kids. It’s very hard doing everything right and staying so disciplined for so long only to get a “we aren’t interested” letter

It’s not over! If you applied to Duke you’ll be considered for that program too.
Daughter received her offer of admittance email yesterday. NC resident, and she currently attends the UNC School of the Arts High School. Solid grades and numerous activities. Our oldest daughter is also a graduate of UNC(not sure if that was a factor as well).
My son got offered Scotland, too. Have to hear more.
I know. They’re not going to pay for anyone to come visit. They don’t need to. If you turn them down, someone just as fabulous will say yes, so they don’t need to bring you there to show you the campus. You’ve already applied and they’ve already accepted, so now it’s up to you.
I know it’s hard. But as an AO officer told group at Duke tour, they aren’t rejecting kids as they mostly all are qualified (like your daughter) but rather they are selecting kids.

my older kid (graduated high school in 2021) was a Robertson semi-finalist, didn’t get into Duke ED, but got UNC during RD. He heard back from Robertson final decision in early Feb. Talking to other parents of semi-finalists, my non-scientific understanding is that you do get admitted to one or the other school, even if you don’t advance to the next round of finalist. However, getting into Duke RD is as hard (if not harder) than getting into Chapel Hill, if you’re not legacy, athlete, etc.
adding the caveat of getting into chapel hill fr OOS, is super hard, is what I meant. it’s def in the single digits, specially this year, with major increase in applications since they jumped big time in the rankings.
My D24 got accepted to UNC yesterday and created her ONYEN account. But when she tried to login today, she got the message account locked. Any ideas on how to fix this?
