Those “a lot of people” are wrong.
However, not harder for UNC applicants in Raleigh. Much easier admit for UNC CH if a NC resident that if from out of state. (Still not easy, but much, much easier.)

Why did they think writing about your emotional trauma would have been better?
Harder for Raleigh than other cities in NC, she means, and I think there is some truth to that.
No, the essay topic is great. I think your grades are what will be an issue as they are pretty far below the 4.5 average. Are you at a competitive private school? How does the school weight? How many honors/AP? With a GPA well below the average and no test score, I would be surprised if you were admitted, but it’s not impossible. My daughter had friends with 4.5w/3.9uw who were TO who were denied.
My private school is decently small. It offers no AP, but I have taken all the honors classes and every dual credit. My school weighs on a 4.0 scale. If you were to compare my school to other private schools in the area, we are actually in the middle of everything since the way our academics are arranged is pretty strange. We are not bad, but we definitely are not at the top of the chain either.
just wanted to say I think your essay topic is brilliant.
Does UNC release decisions at the end of Jan? Is there any chance that it would come a bit earlier?
Last year it was JAN 26’th , both for UNC and NC STATE
Fourth Friday in January the past few years. UNC released at 4 pm, NC State at 5 pm.
Our school lets out at 4:15 pm, so that was fun…(so much drama and so many tears by kid said). She waited until she got home.
How influential is the one day Project Uplift program to your application
Question - we looked in the UNC portal last night, and there’s a link to self submit scores if you want them considered (top of screenshot). My kid already self reported ACT scores in common app, and we could see them there in the mycarlolina portal (just cut off in screenshot). I assume this means UNC has the scores and the link to submit is only necessary to do if my kid wants to send an update??
Hello all, I applied to Chapel Hill early action.
Unweighted GPA: 3.82
Weighted GPA: 4.44
Test-Optional
8 AP Classes
15 Honors Classes
2 Dual Enrollment
Class Rank: 16/397
Top 5% of Class
Decent Extracurriculars (Lots of Community Work/Volunteering).
Want to go into Finance here. Let me know what y’all think!
Not sure - last year my kid could see them in the portal. It looks like you can see them, too? I would have them call the AO.
In state? Maybe. What district? Test optional with a below average GPA is going to be a bit of a longshot. Class rank is great. We know TO kids with similar (or higher) stats not get in and some who did get in.
We were told that we had to self report via the link in the portal even though official scores were sent.
He didn’t send official scores. He self reported them in Common App.
We assumed that since they were already self-reported in the common app they don’t need to be self-reported again
Yes, this is only meant for those who want an update. If you already saw your scores down below, then no action is needed. We learned that we needed to stick with their instructions.
Saw you at the UVA chat. You have stellar stats. Hope your essays and LORs nailed it too. Good luck.
