Well, I’m going to transfer and I figured I want to go to a college where I feel I fit in and will be happy with my surroundings. I currently go to a community college near App State and do not like it for the reasons being I do not like the country and there’s not much diversity here. I like the city, beach, and diversity. Obviously I’m not transferring for those reasons but they don’t hurt. I ruled out Chapel Hill because someone said it’s mostly a “doctors school” and I cannot relate to doctors and nurses.
If you like the city I would recommend UNC Charlotte which is located in Charlotte, NC. Many things to do and it has wonderful city life. I don’t know too much about UNC Wilmington. UNC Charlotte has a lot of diversity, I have a family member who is going to be a sophomore there in the Fall of 2017, she already toured the college and loves it and the diversity and so many things to do.
UNC Wilmington is a far better school than UNC Charlotte and is only ten mins from the beach. Easy choice imo.
Just because a school has a medical school does not make it a “doctors’ college.” I would not take the word of a “someone” over researching it for yourself.
Here are all the majors at UNC Chapel Hill:

Lots of options besides medicine.
UNCW has great programs in marine biology and has some good resources being near the beach. However, what Wilmington can”t provide is a metropolitan feeling; so I”d say the choice is yours.
