I was waitlisted after applying to UNC Chapel Hill Early Action and was wondering where to send my letter of continued interest. I’ve attached a screenshot of the options in the portal, but I’m unsure of which option to select (I figure 1 or 2). Any help would be appreciated.
UNC has not wanted students to send LOCI from what I’ve read on their website. If you have a significant achievement or grades update, that would be pertinent.
I hate to be like this, but do you think this information is pertinent?
• I led two fundraisers for the [club I run] that raised over $12,000.
• I organized [school] Service Day 2024, which broke the school’s volunteer participation record (392/425 students participated).
• I raised my AP Calculus BC grade up to a 91 for the semester, earning a 100 on the semester exam.
• I partnered with students from [other] School to create an inter-school initiative that writes letters to LA firefighters.
• I led [school]’s largest food distribution to date, gifting groceries to 600+ families.
If you want to be completely clear about the process, email your admissions counselor about if UNC accepts LOCIs, and if they do where to submit them. Often they’ll clearly express your options.
Is this information that wasn’t already included on your application? Semester grade updates would come from your school.
Yes, nothing above was included in my application. It all occurred after I submitted in October. The A in Calc would be seen in the mid-year report.
As mentioned, I would ask the AO if this type of update is something you should do.
I think there are some obvious places for those things on the check mark, so you could upload them. A LOCI is not among what they want, though. They only want new information.
It’s ok to provide an application update with this info (without the grade bullet, which is in the midterm report.) I wouldn’t turn it into a LOCI though, maybe a bullet at the end that said something like ‘if i get off the waitlist I will attend.’
Getting off the waitlist is going to have more to do with where you live, your gender, your intended major, etc. You can’t count on hearing about the waitlist before May 1, so do make sure you deposit at another school by their enrollment deadline. Good luck!
Ok, thanks! Do you think its worth it to update my RD schools on the last 2 bullet points? They both occurred after I submitted my RD applications.
Has anyone heard of any movement from the waitlist for this years cycle as of yet?
I can’t imagine that would happen before RD. I know last year a VERY small amount of EA applicants were accepted RD. Very small, in state. Total surprise.
They have historically waited until after the regular decision acceptance deadline. They give very few acceptances from the waitlist in most years.
