UNC Perks?

Okay, so I went to go visit both Duke and UNC on Friday.

(Obviously I liked UNC much more… Duke was very dull.)

But Duke had many really awesome perks (like free printing).

What does perks does UNC have?

Also, does anybody have any pictures of what UNC’s libraries look like on the inside?

I don’t know if free printing is a perk at Duke. I’m sure that it is built into the much more expensive tuition. UNC does something sort of similar, but doesn’t call it free printing. Each semester, part of what you are charged is $40 that goes towards printing.

we have 800 pages of free printing per semester…and you’ll never, ever use more than that

beautiful.

any other “perks” (not necessarily free things) that make you go “oh, this is useful” or “wow, I’m definitely going to take advantage of this”?

Free Football tickets to see a team that is exciting.

Our football team doesn’t suck. Our basketball team is slightly better than dook’s(I’m speaking from a historical perspective; we have more championships, more wins, and a higher winning percentage; this is not to say that dook currently and in recent years has fielded excellent teams). Almost all of our other sports are pretty good.

The fact that you like UNC.

duke=ewwy
UNC=woohoo!

haha but perhaps that’s just a good enough perk for me :P

Actually, you can run out of printing money, believe me. For my fiction writing class we had to print out 17 copies of all of our 5-10 page stories for the class to read. It really adds up on top of normal papers and all that.

That being said, on average you won’t use it all, haha.

I really wouldn’t say that any school has perks, you’re paying for it after all, but UNC is a big university, which means a lot of kids paying fees, which means a lot more things going on around campus.

you could go to davidson, where they have a laundry service for all students in dorms

…but that’s pretty much the lamest thing ever.

Getting to see basketball games for free without having to camp in a crappy tent is a nice perk.

Random things:

-a good amount of dorms have a laundry service where you can actually see which laundry thing is in use online before hiking, oh, a flight down the stairs (laundryview.com)
-this is actually a secret my boyfriend let me in on when we first started dating (it was then that I knew he was a keeper), that I have never shared: in the Pit Stop (a little store on the inside of student stores), on Saturdays their donuts are a day old, and they will give them to you for free.
-there’s a lecture hall on campus that stays open 24/7, and people sometimes go in there to put on movies on a big screen.
-at the bottom of the UL there’s a Media Resource Center where you can rent movies (all kinds of movies, from Eternal Sunshine to foreign films to TV series to actually academic stuff) for free. It ran Blockbuster out of business a few years ago.
-if you get the school’s laptop, if your laptop ever goes on the fritz you can borrow one of their loaners. If your laptop dies, you get a new one.

 • Zipcar
 • Late Night with Roy
 • Professional resume help at Career Services (seriously, it is awesome, and free)
 • Campus wellness offers massages. Before finals they usually set up shop in the student union and give out free massages.
 • We’re a pretty big school. So we get speakers constantly. In the past year I’ve seen the producer of all Batman movies, DJ Grandwizzard Theodore, Lewis Black and some Daily Show correspondents, Will Ferrell, the list goes on. Yes, of course we also get tons and tons and tons of people in academia, but I won’t complain about these guys.
 • All Chapel Hill buses are free
 • the P2P

cloying, thanks a bunch for that list!!! the little things you notice are the things that really make a place, i think

ohhhhhhhhhh where is this?!?!?!

If we told you, we’d have to kill you :-p

Seriously we’re gonna have to do this when you get back, cloying.

YOPO DON’T FORGET YOPO!!!

yogurtpump.com

That is cheap, cheap, cheap frozen yogurt on Franklin. Sure, tons of college campuses have frozen yogurt… But yopo is the best. I have no reason to back me up.

Every spring there’s a big phone a thon where we call accepted students. Last year I was making calls and asked this girl if she was familiar with Carolina’s campus (I’d seen that she was from Durham). She was like, yeah, my dad actually owns this yogurt place on campus…

Then I, on the other end, could only say, “!!!”

I have no idea if she decided to come to Carolina, but I can guarantee you nobody’s ever been recruited so hard.

heathergee I say all this because I miss you and our yopo/lime&basil times :frowning: <3

Lime and basil is the best.

basketball and football.
