Hey guys let’s make this a chat for 2025 UNC transfer applicants!
Hey guys! I am a sophomore applying to transfer to UNC as a junior. I currently attend East Carolina University and I am from Raleigh, NC so I am in state. I applied my senior year of high school and last year as a freshman trasnfer and I got rejected both times unfortuntaley so this is my third and final attempt. I currently have a 3.91 college GPA, I am a member of Public Relations Student Society of America, I am a member of Student Government where I have an on campus job of Director of Community Outreach and Local and State Affairs Committees, I also worked for a NC senator this summer as an intern and I have made Deans list every semester. I have also volunteered for Meals on Wheels of Raleigh for 7 years and created a food drive my senior year of high school for it. I also am a legacy as my mom went to UNC and my grandpa played football there. I am applying to be a Political Science major at UNC. I also have really good essays and I got an amazing rec letter from my english professor who I am very close with and another rec letter from the senator that I worked for this summer who is currently the co-chairman for education for the NC school system. I am really worried about getting in and just wanted to see what you guys think my chances are with these stats?
Post your stats or ask any questions you may have!!
No clue if you get in. They have a 45% rate but no clue if there are defined pathways.
I’d also add - who cares?
You have great opportunities on campus and already have had a great internship and contacts. Doubtful most Poli sci at UNC have accomplished what you have.
I wish you luck but either way, stay aggressive and on the path you are. You, moreso than school make, will impact your life, especially with the major.
Best of luck.
Thank you!
Hey! I’m a 2nd year student at Howard University, junior by credits from Greensboro, NC. I have literally always wanted to go to UNC but I wanted to be a fashion design major out of high school and chose not to apply. I applied to UNC undecided but I believe I’m leaning towards an interdisciplinary studies degree. I am a Presidential Member of the National Society of Leadership and Success, I was a council representative for the College of Fine Arts Council and later campaigned and won Executive Secretary, I am a member of Pretty Brown Girl Howard Chapter, I also have an on campus job as the Peer Captain for the office of undergraduate studies. I started a support group for minority women with EDs, do graphic design on the side and creative direction. I’m nervous and excited about the possibility of getting in, I have wanted to go here since I was 7 years old
I think you should apply and see what happens. Congrats on your accomplishments!
I respectfully disagree that most poli sci students at UNC have not accomplished what this student has (not taking anything away from this student). There are a LOT of very involved students: volunteering, leadership positions, clubs, newspaper, political volunteering, internships with politicians (including the governor) and with various national news organizations, poli sci research etc. There is a lot going on at UNC and with the students who attend (again, not diminishing what the OP has accomplished).
To the OP: Good luck! Please know that you can continue to succeed regardless of the outcome!
It looks like they received more applications than normal.
someone on a reddit post said that they were sitting in on a transfer admissions meeting. unc has consistently gotten around 3500 applications each year, but they received over 7000 for fall 2025, making it twice as competitive and delaying results.
can you send me link to that post? i cant find it, also are there more info we can get?
it’s [Wrong_Razzmatazz2177] what does this mean for us transfers this cycle? on the r/unc reddit, it won’t let me attach a link but it’s the second reply down.
where is this from?
NC system interactive dashboard then choose only UNC
Do you know anything more about when decisions are coming out?
I wonder if this 45% transfer acceptance is inclusive or exclusive of the Guaranteed Transfers Agreements.
My son received this offer last year - to start on Campus for Fall 2025 as a Sophomore - however he still had to fill out the common app/transfer paperwork, re-up his North Carolina Residency Status etc. and submit like all the regular transfer applicants do.
Not sure how many of the Sophomore Guarantees they hand out - but if those are 100% acceptance as transfers -and- they are included in the overall transfer application acceptance rate, then it should indicate the nature transfer applicant acceptance % is probably lower than 45%.
It is inclusive, I’m 90% sure based on reading the Common Data Set from previous years (not sure why the most recent one removed a lot of info about transfer students)
Nevertheless, the transfer acceptance rate has been relatively high in-state in years past. But this could also speak to a high quality of applicants.
My son got the UNC transfer decision an hour ago. Best of luck to everyone!
