Ahhhhhhhh I want them to post decisions now so I can just get the crying over with. Here are my stats because I am SUPER nervous and somehow it makes me feel better to post my life story online lol.
-OOS (Florida- currently a freshman at UF)
-Honors Program, pre-med, took 17 credit hours first semester and 18 now
GPA current (yikes) 3.56, it will be a 3.8 by the end of this semester if it kills me tho
-Strength of schedule: Chem 1 and lab, Calc 1, Government, Personality Psychology, Introduction to Medical Professions
-Strength of Semester 2 schedule: Chem 2 and lab, Stats 1, Anatomy and Physiology, Medical Terminology, 2 honors classes, and ballet for credit
-Extracurriculars: ballet company on campus, ACE certification for group fitness instructors (a not-for-credit 3 credit hour course so technically I’m at 21 credit hours plus a kickboxing mentorship)
-I had my high school teacher write a rec letter because the average class size here is about 250-300. Not ideal, so in combination with my GPA and out of state status I’m really freaking worried.
-My high school stats were good:
-5.62 W GPA, 3.94 UW
-IB Program (HL bio, HL English, HL art, SL Spanish, SL math, and SL psych) and I passed all IB exams with a 5 or 6 out of 7
-7 APs, passed all with 4s and 5s
-200+ hours of volunteer work, some officer positions in minor clubs, and 14 year commitment to dance
-Lots of art awards/publications
@CarolinaBlueBela I think you’ve got a great chance! Really competitive student from a great school. You’ll also be happy to know that transfer admissions for OOS students are much less competitive than freshman admissions for OOS students. Most of the transfers still tend to be NC residents, but that has more to do with the fact that most of the students applying are NC residents than there being any sort of quota for in state students. Good luck!
Don’t count on it being April 6th. In fact, it’s usually a different day each year (within the same week or so). However, one constant throughout the past few years is that Admisisons will send out an email titled “Important Update from Carolina” thanking you for your interest and a message stating that they know decisions won’t come out that day but it will be soon. The following day, they release decisions. So once you get that email in early April, you can be confident that the next afternoon you will know your decision.
Side note, if anyone here is a prospective EXSS transfer, I can help you plan out your schedule or give advice on the major. Fall ‘19 registration for transfers begins soon after decisions are released. (It was April 12th last year fwiw) Registration as a new transfer is not priority based like it is after you take a semester or more here. Meaning that every new transfer registers at the same time (for their first semester only) regardless of credits transferred. After your first semester, Carolina will calculate your terms in residence (basically how many blocks of 15 credits you have). The more terms in residence you have, the earlier you register(you’ll come to find that will be very helpful considering how quick some classes can fill up). As always, if anyone has any questions on the transfer process, my time as a transfer so far or any other general Carolina questions, feel free to message me.
@HSstudentNC I’m guessing it’ll be on the 5th since it seems like it’s typically the first Friday in April. If not, maybe the 12th.
Would you happen to know whether or not they allow you to take and transfer in any summer courses you complete after being admitted? I want to take Calc 2 over the summer if I’m admitted–I’d be majoring in Computer Science (BA) but I want some of the upper level math. I also want to finish in 5 semesters, and taking calc 2 before beginning at UNC would loosen my schedule up a bit.
They do as long as it follows their transfer credit guide. Some classes at other schools may not transfer to Carolina (or they’d only be an elective), so make sure to check the transfer credit equivalencies on the admissions site. I finished my Associate in Science in summer of 2018 and they took all my credits from then. You just submit your final transcript from your old school and Admissions will create a transfer credit report for you to see which credits transferred. @penntousc
You can’t enroll in the regular summer sessions at Carolina before your first fall semester as far as I know. You can enroll in the STP (Summer transfer program). However, this is just for transfers who want to get a feel for the campus and take some transition courses such as EDUC 301 Junior Transfer Seminar (it’s an Experiential Education gen ed which all undergrads must take at least one of), EDUC 330 The science of Learning, EDUC 130 (1 credit) Navigating the Research university etc. With all of this being said, you must apply to enroll in this program after being admitted and you will be unable to take non transition courses such as Calc or major specific courses. The STP takes place during Summer Session II (typically late June to end of July). @Mcunn226
“If you have been accepted to UNC-Chapel Hill as a first-year or transfer student for the upcoming fall semester and wish to attend Summer School, contact Undergraduate Admissions, CB# 2200, Jackson Hall (919-966-3621) to change your date of admission to begin First Session or Second Session. If you are beginning a graduate degree program this summer or fall, contact the Graduate School, CB# 4010, Bynum Hall (919-966-2611).”
Thank you! I’m glad we can all be nervous together! Good luck to everyone, and we are hopefully less than a month out! (And it just happens to be the best month) go heels!??
I stand corrected. The problem is many Summer classes may be full/waitlist by the time you are able to enroll in them. Summer registration starts March 19th for returning students. @Mcunn226
@HSstudentNC I just want to knock out a semester of a foreign language. If not, no big deal but my program wants five semesters of a lang and my goal is to graduate ASAP.
It would be HUGE if I could get into COMP 110 for the summer if accepted… because it would really suck to have to wait an entire year before taking any computer science courses other than Intro to Programming and Foundations of Programming, especially because of how crucial that junior year internship can be.

There are 64 total seats for 110 this summer. It’s offered during summer session I. May 15th until June 20th. The traditional in person course has 40 seats and the online course has 24. I will keep you updated if those classes fill up before decisions are released. @penntousc
