I’ve received no further communication and my checklist has been complete since 1/15.
Additionally, my application status is “submitted”. Don’t know if that gets updated along the way though.

My checklist was completed today and I have not heard anything from the admissions office.
So here is a question; probably the one all of us are avoiding.
What if we don’t get in?
I’m trying to prepare for both scenarios, but it’s hard to do so simultaneously. On one hand, UNC could reject me. Therefore I am looking into housing for next year, talking to friends about rooming, and looking at potential classes to take. On the other hand, I could be admitted, so I feel as though I should refrain from committing to anything such as rooming with someone or living someplace here. I have no idea what to do, because I can’t plan out any further until we hear back from UNC.
I’m struggling with this, and would like to know if anyone else out there is doing the same. Any advice?
I’m in the same boat. The worst part is that my lease here is up in May, and we probably will not know until the first week in April. I’m just apartment searching in both cities so I can put a deposit down the day the send out decisions.
Anyone else get into NCSU? That’s a good option as well and I may go there if I don’t get into UNC
Hey guys! So I actually was in a super similar situation last year. I was banking on living on campus at UNC, and then I found out that there is EXTREMELY limited on-campus housing – especially for transfers. If you have the $ then Granville is a great option! I’d recommend subleasing though, that’s our best bet for getting into a good apartment complex. There’s a group on Facebook for UNC subleases. Also, I’d like to add that UNC’s admissions process is incredibly holistic… I don’t think “chancing” people is effective whatsoever. It all depends on who reads your app and what kind of group of students they’re looking for this year. I was denied acceptance last year and am crossing my fingers that I’ll have a better shot this year. Best of luck to everyone
@girlypop13 that’s odd… they told me at the info session that on campus housing was guaranteed for transfers for all four years if we wanted it. Not that I necessarily would live on campus anyways because I really need my own room and a kitchen, but still.
Would you happen to know what UNC does about housing for those who get the Carolina Covenant? I’m hoping to live off campus in a somewhat decent apartment if I get accepted, but I haven’t found any info on housing for covenant recipients
@penntousc Covenant scholars just get their cost of attendance minus EFC (Estimated family contribution) covered in full. There isn’t any special housing that I am aware of. If you choose to live off campus, you will get a refund based on the amount you would have paid for the estimated on-campus housing costs. This year, the costs were about $3,300 per semester, which you would receive as a refund if you did not live on campus. Essentially, you’ll get a refund for things you don’t get that are included in the cost of attendance (such as on campus housing, meal plans, books etc).
@HSstudentNC oh yeah, I didn’t think there would be special housing, just wasn’t sure if they would reserve spots on campus for covenant scholars so that it’d be easier for them to handle the room and board aspect of cost of attendance. I like that more though, I’ll just have to try to find housing priced similar to on campus rates if I get accepted. Thanks for the info!
So for financial aid, Carolina’s priority filing date was March 1st. On the CSS website, it says the award letter date is March 10th. If you filed your information before the 1st, will you be able to see your award letter on the 10th? Or do you have to wait until you’re given an admissions decision?
You will get your financial aid award within a few weeks after your acceptance. @reidtw I got mine a week after my acceptance.
@HSstudentNC If I qualify for the covenant, is it pretty much just assumed that that is what I’ll be receiving? Based on the income threshold on the website, I should clear it by a large margin–but if admitted, I’m probably going to enroll immediately
Are you guys gonna submit your midyear grades? I was going to just screenshot my grades on my schools’ official website and email it to them.
Assuming you meet the guidelines on the website and are admitted, you should receive the Covenant. Interestingly, they will not accept your 2018 income for consideration for the Covenant, even if it was a year of hardship. For me, my family’s 2016 income was far higher than 2017 (I would have received covenant had they considered 2017 financials). Financial aid staff will only consider the tax year that the FAFSA uses when determining your Covenant eligibility. @penntousc
I didn’t submit mine last year at that time and I personally don’t think mid-year grades have any real impact on helping chances. @srb2000
@HSstudentNC okay, that’s what I was thinking. I just don’t want to waste any time if admitted. Thanks!
@bmcfmm246 what was your experience at WFU like? I’m considering applying there, they have an amazing communications program!
It’s an awesome school - academics and campus are great! The reason I want to transfer are kind of more personal things specific to my situation. I’m not loving the social scene because I’m not in Greek Life and not really happy here but otherwise I encourage you apply if you don’t think that will be an issue for you @transferluk
Awesome! Thanks for the advice @bmcfmm246
Possibly less than a month away from decisions!
Yaaaay
